Comicdom CON Athens 2026: ‘V for Vendetta’ Creator David Lloyd to Headline 20th Anniversary Festival
Athens, April 28 – The 20th Comicdom CON Athens is set to transform Technopolis City of Athens into the ultimate meeting point for comics, illustration, animation, and board game enthusiasts from May 15 to 17. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the international comics festival promises a rich program, highlighted by the presence of David Lloyd, co-creator of the iconic graphic novel ‘V for Vendetta’.
The festival, which remains the only one of its scale with free admission to all activities, will also offer a complimentary catalog to all visitors. The full program is gradually being announced on the official website, comicdom-con.gr, and across its social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok).
A Global Icon and Over 200 Artists
David Lloyd, whose career spans from the groundbreaking digital platform Aces Weekly to his recent acclaim in fine arts through painting exhibitions, has profoundly influenced global iconography. His artwork has become a symbol of social movements, bridging pop culture with high art. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet Lloyd and explore his extensive body of work.
Throughout the three-day event, nearly 200 comics creators and illustrators-established, emerging, and debut artists-will showcase their latest and past works in the fields of comics and illustration. In response to the growing presence of Artificial Intelligence in the cultural industry, the festival emphasizes its support for artists by prohibiting the submission of AI-generated works.
Anniversary Exhibitions and a Tribute to a Greek Legend
A central anniversary exhibition, ’20 Years of Comicdom CON Athens – 30 Years of Comicdom,’ will offer visitors a visual journey through the festival’s history. Curated by Leda Tsene, the exhibition features original archival material, publications, posters, photographs, and rare documents, tracing its evolution from early self-published works and fanzines to the establishment of Comicdom CON Athens. It will also display works specially created for the festival by international and local artists, including Milo Manara, John Romita Jr., Mark Buckingham, Michalis Dialynas, Ilias Kyriazis, Tomek, and DaNi. Eight new illustrations, exclusively commissioned for the 20th anniversary, will further enrich the visual experience.
A particularly compelling exhibition, ‘Pavlos Sidiropoulos – In Conclusion,’ offers a visual journey into the life and work of the ‘prince’ of Greek rock, the ‘intellectual rebel’ Pavlos Sidiropoulos. This exhibition presents illustrations, frames, and preliminary sketches from the new graphic novel ‘Pavlos Sidiropoulos – In Conclusion’ (Mikros Iros publications), with art by Konstantinos Sklavenitis and script by Ilias Katirtziyanoglou. The exhibition will be accompanied by a presentation of the publication, featuring individuals who closely lived and collaborated with Sidiropoulos.
Other notable exhibitions include ‘Apartment Buildings – from the Homonymous Song by LEX’ and a display by comics creator/cartoonist Antonis Vavagiannis, known for his best-selling ‘Kourafelkythra’ series.
A Hub for Pop Culture and Community
Comicdom CON Athens continues to be a vibrant hub for pop culture, fostering connections between artists and their audience. The festival’s commitment to free access and its diverse program ensure that it remains a cornerstone of the cultural calendar in Athens, drawing enthusiasts from across Greece and beyond.
The event is expected to attract a significant number of visitors, providing a platform for creative expression and celebrating the rich world of comics and related arts. The organizers encourage everyone to visit Technopolis and immerse themselves in this unique cultural experience.
