Corfu: Petaleia Weather Station Upgraded with New Equipment
Corfu, March 19 – The meteorological station in Petaleia, Corfu, is undergoing a significant upgrade with the installation of new Davis Vantage Pro2 equipment, promising enhanced accuracy and reliability in measurements for the region.
The new station was acquired from the company STRABON – Meteorological Applications, based in Ptolemaida, which directly contributed to the procurement and provision of the equipment.
According to the schedule, a scientific team from the National Observatory of Athens will visit the area during the last ten days of April to proceed with the installation of the new system. The team will install a new 5-meter mast, meeting Observatory specifications, ensuring even greater stability and quality of recordings.
With this new installation, a significant improvement in measurement accuracy is expected, particularly for key parameters such as precipitation, temperature, and wind.
Previous Equipment Malfunction
It is recalled that on February 11, 2026, a malfunction was recorded in the precipitation measurement system, when recording suddenly stopped. An inspection revealed damage to the rain gauge board, likely due to humidity, oxidation, and approximately nine years of continuous operation.
This malfunction made reliable data recording impossible, leading to the decision for a complete equipment replacement.
