Corfu, March 19, 2026 – The Attica Group is preparing to significantly upgrade its ferry services on the Patras – Igoumenitsa – Corfu – Venice route with the introduction of a new vessel. The ship, to be renamed ‘SUPERFAST V’, is expected to commence operations from May, replacing the ‘Lefka Ori’.
New Vessel ‘SUPERFAST V’ Joins Attica Group Fleet
According to ‘Ferry Shipping News’, the vessel, which was constructed in 2021, is currently known as ‘Gnv Bridge’. It is returning to its owner, Visemar di Navigazione, after a five-year charter to Gnv. The Attica Group is anticipated to take ownership of the vessel by the end of April.
The ‘SUPERFAST V’ is a modern ro-pax ferry, built in Porto Viro, Italy. It boasts a gross tonnage of approximately 32,000 tons and measures 203 meters in length. The vessel is designed to accommodate over 1,000 passengers and is equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers), allowing it to reach speeds of up to 23 knots.
Enhanced Service for Patras-Igoumenitsa-Corfu-Venice Route
The deployment of the ‘SUPERFAST V’ is expected to bolster the connectivity between mainland Greece, the Ionian islands, and Italy. This upgrade is particularly significant for Corfu, a popular tourist destination, promising improved travel experiences for both residents and visitors.
The new ferry will operate on the crucial Patras – Igoumenitsa – Corfu – Venice line, a key maritime link for trade and tourism in the region. The replacement of the ‘Lefka Ori’ with a newer, more advanced vessel underscores Attica Group’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing service quality.
Impact on Regional Connectivity and Tourism
The introduction of ‘SUPERFAST V’ is anticipated to have a positive impact on regional connectivity. The increase in capacity and the modern amenities of the new vessel are likely to attract more travelers, further boosting tourism in the Ionian Islands, particularly Corfu.
The ferry’s advanced features, including its speed and environmental systems, align with contemporary demands for efficient and sustainable maritime transport. This move by Attica Group is a strategic step to maintain its competitive edge in the highly dynamic ferry market.
Local businesses and tourism stakeholders in Corfu and the wider Ionian region are expected to benefit from the enhanced ferry service, which could lead to an increase in visitor numbers and economic activity.
The Attica Group has a long-standing presence in the Greek ferry industry, known for its extensive network and modern fleet. The addition of ‘SUPERFAST V’ is a testament to its ongoing investment in improving maritime transport services across its routes.
Further details regarding the exact schedule and specific amenities of the ‘SUPERFAST V’ are expected to be released by the Attica Group closer to its operational launch in May.
