With the slogan ‘The Magic of Christmas,’ the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, along with Deputy Mayor of Culture Nikos Vradis, are signaling the start of the most magical time of the year. This Saturday, December 6th, as reported by kerkyrasimera.gr, the city of Corfu will be enveloped in a Christmas atmosphere, featuring an official illumination ceremony and a series of events designed to turn the historic center into a vibrant, festive setting.
Festivities Begin at Municipal Theatre
The celebrations will commence at 6:00 PM from the Municipal Theatre of Corfu, where children carrying illuminated lanterns will lead a festive procession through the city streets. The parade will be musically accompanied by the percussion ensembles of the three historic philharmonic orchestras: Palaia, Mantzaros, and Kapodistrias, in an impressive joint performance.
Grand Finale at Town Hall Square
The procession is expected to reach Town Hall Square at 7:00 PM, where a large festive party will be held. The event will culminate with the lighting of the island’s Christmas tree, marking the official start of the holiday season.
The artistic association METRON will perform on the square’s stage, followed by spectacular choreographies from the renowned dance schools of Christina Oikonomou, Niki Giannou, Tonia Gkasiali, and Eva Petropoulou.
Diverse Program for All Ages
The program will also feature the Children’s Choir ‘Saint Spyridon’ and the traditional Corfiot Maskarata, which will add a local flavor and unique energy to the evening. DJ Dimitris Metallinos will be on the decks, and the celebration will conclude with a concert by Boombox Collective, bringing a youthful rhythm to this year’s inaugural festivities.
The artistic direction is overseen by Petros Gallias in collaboration with the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu (DIPETHE Corfu).
Surprise Event Planned for Thursday
In parallel, tomorrow, Thursday, December 4th, Corfiots in the city center are anticipated to encounter a unique surprise. Although not yet revealed, this surprise is intended to give both young and old a preview of the festive atmosphere to follow.
All Christmas events are organized by the Department of Culture, Sports, and New Generation of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.
