Greek authorities have recently granted a series of significant approvals and permits for various hotel projects across the country, signaling a robust period of development and investment in the tourism sector. These decisions pave the way for new constructions, extensive renovations, and expansions of existing hotel units in key tourist destinations such as Athens, Kalabaka, Kardamaina on the island of Kos, Syvota, Corfu, Malia, and Karpathos.

Major Developments in Kalabaka and Athens

The Municipality of Meteora has issued a building permit for the addition of new construction and a communal swimming pool to an existing three-star Boutique Hotel in Kalabaka. In the capital, the Municipality of Athens has granted a building permit for a facade alteration project aimed at renovating a building and converting it into a hotel in Petralona. The initiative, undertaken by NP HOSPITALITY IKEHTO, reflects the ongoing trend of transforming urban properties into hospitality venues to meet the growing demand for city breaks.

Expansions and New Facilities on the Islands

The Ministry of Culture has approved the construction of five swimming pools within the existing hotel unit “Chorio Euripides” in Kardamaina, Kos. This significant development, under the ownership of Kontomanolis Nikolaos S.A., is located within a declared archaeological site, highlighting the careful balance between tourism development and cultural heritage preservation.

Further south, the Municipality of Central Corfu has issued a building permit for an extension and the addition of a swimming pool to a hotel in the settlement of Peroulades. The Agiovlasitis family is spearheading this project, which will expand the hotel’s total volume to 4,393 square meters, catering to the increasing number of visitors to the popular Ionian island.

On Crete, the Municipality of Heraklion has approved the addition of extensions to three buildings at the MATHEO hotel in Malia. This substantial investment by K & G SAVVIDIS OE and M & G SAVVIDIS AE will significantly increase the hotel’s capacity, with a total building volume reaching 16,527 square meters, reflecting the strong demand for tourism infrastructure in this vibrant resort town.

Renovations and Upgrades in Syvota and Karpathos

The Municipality of Igoumenitsa has granted a building permit for the three-star Ephyra Sivota Hotel. The project, managed by EPHYRA TOURIST. & HOTEL ENTERPRISES, will see the hotel’s total volume expand to 4,606 square meters, contributing to the modernization of hospitality services in Syvota.

Lastly, the Municipality of Karpathos has issued a permit for the repair and maintenance of rooms in the central building, Building E, and Building D of the AMOOPI BAY hotel, utilizing scaffolding. This project, undertaken by TEXEK, focuses on upgrading the existing facilities to ensure a high standard of service for guests visiting the picturesque island of Karpathos.

These approvals collectively demonstrate a concerted effort by both public and private sectors in Greece to bolster the country’s tourism infrastructure, enhance visitor experience, and capitalize on the growing global interest in Greek destinations.
