Hilton, a leading hospitality chain, is making a significant push into the Greek market, intensifying its portfolio with 67 hotels across the country. This includes 49 currently operational properties and 18 under development, highlighting a strategic focus on resort hotels in the islands and less-known destinations, alongside urban centers.
Hilton’s Transformative Growth in Greece Since 2020
Starting from a single hotel opened in 1963, Hilton has undergone an impressive transformation in Greece since 2020, expanding its portfolio across seven different brands. Of the 67 hotels, 49 are operational, with 38 of these being collaborations with Small Luxury Hotels. Eleven properties fall under three Hilton brands: Curio Collection by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, and Hilton Garden Inn. The remaining 18 hotels are under development and will introduce seven new brands to the Greek market.
First Appearance of Luxury Brands in Greece
Among the new additions, the prestigious Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts are making their debut in Greece, underscoring the growing demand for luxury travel experiences. In the past year, Hilton celebrated the opening of its first Hilton Garden Inn in Greece, the Hilton Garden Inn Athens Syggrou Avenue, and the entry of the Curio Collection by Hilton brand with Adia Aluma Athens, Curio Collection by Hilton.
Upcoming Openings in Key Greek Destinations
In the immediate future, Hilton is preparing to launch 18 new properties in urban centers and resort destinations. These include the new Conrad Hotels & Resorts in Athens and Corfu, the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts in the Peloponnese, and the return of Hilton Hotels & Resorts in Chania.
“Greece remains a strategically important market for Hilton, more than 60 years after the opening of our first hotel here,” stated David Kelly, Senior Vice President, Continental Europe at Hilton, during a press conference last Friday. He added that hotel owners recognize the value of Hilton’s strong commercial network, top brands, and international customer base, which includes over 235 million Hilton Honors members. Last week, Hilton, which operates 9,000 hotels worldwide, was also recognized for the second time in three years as the World’s No. 1 Best Workplace by Great Place to Work®, marking its tenth consecutive year on the list.
New Hotels in Athens, Corfu, Peloponnese, and Chania
Over the next four years, Hilton plans to introduce two of its most luxurious brands in Greece: Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. A notable opening is the Conrad Athens The Ilisian, featuring 307 rooms and the largest number of suites in Athens, offering panoramic city views.
The Conrad Corfu is scheduled to open in 2026, strengthening Hilton’s presence in the Greek islands. The international chain also announced the Waldorf Astoria Scarlet Bay, set to open in 2029 in the Peloponnese. This resort will boast 121 sea-view rooms and suites, along with 13 branded villas.
The year 2026 will also mark the return of the iconic Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand to Greece with the Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa. This year-round resort will open for the summer season in the city center, offering 85 beachfront rooms and suites, all with private pools and Aegean Sea views.
“Our growth in Greece is stronger than ever. In the last five years, we have expanded our Greek portfolio with more than 60 hotels in operation or under development,” emphasized Alan Mantin, Vice President, Development, Southern Europe, Hilton, highlighting the planned openings for 2026 and beyond.
Hilton is focusing on resort hotels in the Greek islands and lifestyle brands, further enriching its portfolio after introducing Hilton Garden Inn and Curio Collection in Athens. “We see great growth opportunities for our various brands in many destinations, from the beautiful islands to urban centers like Athens and Thessaloniki,” noted Andreas Koukas, Senior Director, Development, Greece & Cyprus, Hilton. He added, “We also observe increasing interest in less-known destinations, with social media boosting the desire for authentic travel experiences.”
In line with this strategy, Hilton’s presence in Greece is underpinned by its Travel with Purpose initiative, aiming to create a positive impact and long-term value for people, hotels, and the communities in which it operates.
