Wizz Air Expands Network with New Corfu-Sofia Route

Corfu, January 14, 2026 – Wizz Air, a prominent European low-cost airline, has officially announced the launch of a new direct flight connection between Corfu and Sofia, Bulgaria. The new route is scheduled to begin on June 7, 2026, as part of the airline’s summer 2026 flight program.

The flights will operate twice a week, every Tuesday and Sunday, offering travelers a convenient and affordable option for connecting the Ionian island with the Bulgarian capital. Ticket prices for the new route will start from 29.99 euros, making it an attractive option for both leisure and business travelers.

Advanced Aircraft for Enhanced Passenger Experience

Wizz Air will utilize its state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft for this new connection. These modern aircraft are known for their efficiency, boasting 20% lower fuel consumption, 20% reduced CO₂ emissions, and 50% less noise compared to previous generation Airbus models. This commitment to modern fleet operation aligns with the airline’s efforts towards sustainability and an improved passenger experience.

Continued Growth and Investment in Bulgaria

The introduction of the Corfu-Sofia route underscores Wizz Air’s long-term development strategy in Bulgaria, which has been a key market for the airline since 2005. The airline now operates a total of 58 routes from Bulgaria to 18 countries, including 34 direct connections from Sofia to 16 countries and 16 routes from Varna to 9 countries.

In 2025 alone, Wizz Air transported over 3.1 million passengers to and from Bulgaria, demonstrating its significant presence and impact on the region’s air travel market. During the winter 2025 season, the airline is offering more than 1.6 million seats from Bulgaria, marking a substantial 44.5% increase compared to winter 2024. Since the commencement of its operations in Bulgaria, Wizz Air has carried nearly 33 million passengers.

Operational Excellence and Reliability

The airline has maintained a high level of operational efficiency, conducting almost 16,000 flights with a flight completion rate of 99.6%. This consistent performance highlights Wizz Air’s commitment to reliability and customer satisfaction.

The new Corfu-Sofia route is expected to further boost tourism and economic ties between Greece and Bulgaria, providing more travel options and fostering cultural exchange. Travelers looking to explore the historic charm of Corfu or the vibrant city life of Sofia will now have a direct and affordable link.
