Corfu, February 5 – Three Greek nationals have been arrested in Corfu on charges of attempted extortion. The arrests, made by officers from the Corfu Crime Prevention and Suppression Sub-Directorate, followed a complaint filed by a 44-year-old foreign national.

Details of the Extortion Attempt

According to the Hellenic Police announcement, the three suspects, aged 34, 36, and 60, allegedly went to the complainant’s shop on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 3, 2026. There, they reportedly demanded a sum of money from an employee, claiming it was a debt owed by the 44-year-old owner. Furthermore, they threatened to return the following day armed if their demands were not met.

Coordinated Police Operation Leads to Arrests

In response to the complaint, a coordinated police operation was launched. Officers from the Prevention and Mediation Team (OPDI) successfully located and arrested two of the suspects, the 34-year-old and 36-year-old, on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Shortly thereafter, the 60-year-old suspect voluntarily appeared at the Corfu Crime Prevention and Suppression Sub-Directorate and was also arrested.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

A case file has been opened against the three individuals. The Hellenic Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Further details regarding the alleged debt and the circumstances surrounding the extortion attempt are expected to emerge as the legal process unfolds.

This incident is one of several recent arrests in Corfu, including three individuals for shoplifting and another for driving without a license. Authorities are maintaining a strong presence to ensure public safety and address criminal activity on the island.

The local community is urged to report any suspicious activities to the police to assist in maintaining order and security.
