ATHENS, Texas – Three individuals have been taken into custody following a reported shooting incident on Tuesday in Athens. The investigation, a joint effort between Henderson County narcotics detectives and Athens police, uncovered a home with multiple bullet damages and led to the seizure of various illicit substances.

Investigation Uncovers Bullet Damage and Drug Stash

The incident unfolded in the 400 block of Jonathan Street, where authorities found a residence bearing damage from several bullets, as announced by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. This discovery prompted further investigation and the execution of a search warrant.

Upon searching the premises, detectives located a backpack containing two large plastic bags of suspected cocaine, a substantial plastic bag of suspected marijuana, a bottle of suspected Xanax pills, and drug paraphernalia commonly associated with drug distribution. The raid highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat drug-related activities in the area.

Three Individuals Arrested, Facing Multiple Charges

As a result of the investigation and search, three individuals were arrested at the home. They were subsequently booked into the Henderson County Jail on various drug and misdemeanor warrants. The arrests include:

  • Jerquindon Trmon Taylor, 24, of Athens: Taylor faces serious charges, including manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, weighing more than four grams but less than 200 grams, and possession of marijuana weighing more than four ounces but less than five pounds. He is currently held on bonds totaling $85,000. If convicted on the felony charges, Taylor could face a prison sentence ranging from five to 99 years, or life, in addition to a fine of up to $10,000.
  • A 28-year-old Trinidad man: This individual was held on a $7,500 bond for a charge of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 3, weighing less than 28 grams.
  • A 23-year-old Athens woman: She was held on bonds totaling $1,102.40, primarily for municipal warrants related to failure to appear and expired registration.

The swift action by law enforcement underscores their commitment to maintaining public safety and addressing criminal activities that impact the community. The collaboration between Henderson County narcotics detectives and Athens police was crucial in bringing these individuals to justice and removing illegal drugs from circulation.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the initial shooting report, but the subsequent investigation into the bullet-damaged home quickly escalated to the discovery of the drug operation. Further information regarding the shooting itself is expected as the investigation progresses.

This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent challenges faced by communities regarding drug-related crime and the dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies to address these issues. The arrests are a significant step in disrupting local drug networks and ensuring the safety and well-being of Athens residents.
