Corfu, June 16, 2026 – The Audit Court has rejected the new decision by the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands concerning the assignment of waste collection. According to information, the contract, valued at approximately €2.2 million, required a pre-contractual review as per the law.
Audit Court Rejects €2.2 Million Waste Collection Contract
Following an open public tender, ENACT was selected as the contractor. However, the Audit Court deemed a specific provision of the contract unlawful. Sources indicate this provision relates to the repairs of the contractor’s vehicles.
The municipality intends to pursue all available legal remedies, a process expected to conclude within one month. Simultaneously, the municipality will proceed with a negotiation process to ensure waste collection services throughout the summer months, pending the Audit Court’s final decision.
Municipality to Challenge Decision and Secure Summer Waste Collection
This development comes as the municipality faces urgent needs for waste management, especially during the peak tourist season. The rejection by the Audit Court highlights strict oversight on public spending and contract compliance.
The situation underscores the complexities local authorities face in managing essential services while adhering to stringent legal and financial regulations. The outcome of the municipality’s legal challenge and subsequent negotiations will be crucial for the island’s waste management in the coming months.
