Corfu, May 5, 2026 – The Corfu Fire Service has significantly upgraded its operational capabilities with the deployment of a new, state-of-the-art Matrise 300dji drone. This advanced technology will play a crucial role in fire prevention and monitoring across Northern Corfu, particularly in the Pantokrator region, with its base in Loutses.
New Drone Enhances Firefighting Efforts
The acquisition of the Matrise 300dji drone marks a significant step forward in modernizing and upgrading the Corfu Fire Service. As stated by Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Stefanos Gikas, this initiative complements other advancements, including the recent deployment of eight new, ultra-modern fire trucks.
The drone is designed to continuously monitor and transmit real-time imagery to the Unified Operations and Crisis Management Coordination Center (E.S.K.E.D.I.K.) and the Regional Fire Services Command of the Ionian Islands. This direct feed allows for immediate assessment and response to potential fire threats.
Key Features and Operational Capacity
The Matrise 300dji boasts an impressive operational radius of 8 kilometers from its base. It can remain airborne for 24 hours a day, requiring only a 25-minute break for battery replacement. Equipped with a high-definition camera offering 200x optical zoom and a thermal camera, the drone provides exceptional clarity and detail, even in challenging conditions.
During the entire fire season, the drone will operate non-stop, providing continuous surveillance. There are also plans to acquire a second drone to further enhance coverage and operational efficiency.
Collaboration and Future Outlook
Deputy Minister Gikas expressed his gratitude to the political leadership of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for their excellent cooperation. He also commended the administration and personnel of the Fire Services for their dedication and professionalism.
This technological advancement is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the island’s defense against fires and ensure the safety of its residents and natural environment. The continuous monitoring and rapid information dissemination provided by the drone will enable faster and more effective intervention in case of a fire outbreak.
The deployment of the Matrise 300dji drone solidifies Corfu’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for public safety and environmental protection. It represents a proactive approach to managing the risks associated with the fire season, aiming to minimize damage and protect the island’s valuable ecosystems.
