Intense weather phenomena have caused significant problems across many regions of Greece in recent hours, with Northern Corfu bearing the brunt of prolonged heavy rainfall, resulting in extensive damage.

Corfu: Severe Damage from Adverse Weather

The powerful storm also affected Parga, Arta, Ioannina, and Igoumenitsa, while in Kalamas, Thesprotia, fields have been submerged. The wider areas of Kastoria and Epirus have also reported damage from the severe weather front.

In Corfu, the extent of the flooding is evident in images from Forecast Weather Greece, showing a stream next to a residential area that has overflowed its banks.

Landslides, School Closures, and Power Outages

In Karousades, heavy rainfall triggered the collapse of an entire hillside, causing damage to parked cars and uninhabited houses. Four members of the 5th EMAK (Special Disaster Response Unit) from Ioannina, equipped with two rescue boats, water pumps, and specialized equipment, are en route to the area.

Additionally, schools in the northern part of the island will remain closed, and several areas are experiencing power outages.

Weather Conditions Continue to Evolve

The adverse weather is ongoing, with local authorities closely monitoring the situation and deploying resources as needed to protect residents.

EMY’s Emergency Weather Bulletin Remains in Effect

According to the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EBEKF) issued on November 20, 2025, by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), a new deterioration in weather conditions is recorded in western and northwestern Greece.

For today, Friday, November 21, 2025, strong rains and thunderstorms are forecast for:

  • The Ionian Islands (Corfu, Paxi, Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca)
  • Aetolia-Acarnania
  • Epirus

A gradual abatement of the intense phenomena is expected from late Friday night into Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Authorities advise caution and avoidance of unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
