Corfu, March 9, 2026 – The Ionian Islands Regional Administration has announced the start of crucial roadworks on the Vryoni-Moraitika road axis, specifically in the Perama area of the Corfu Regional Unit. The commencement of these works, which are designed to significantly enhance road safety and infrastructure, was marked by an on-site visit on Monday, March 9, by the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Ioannis Trepeklis, accompanied by the Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works and Planning, Giorgos Mamalos, and regional service officials.

On-Site Briefing on Project Progress and Timeline

During the visit, officials received a detailed on-site briefing regarding the progress and timeline of the interventions. These works encompass critical slope stabilization in areas prone to landslides, as well as leveling asphalt paving to bolster overall road safety. The Regional Governor emphasized the transformative nature of these current efforts.

“Until today, interventions and repairs have been carried out at this point of the road network. Now, the creation of a new, modern infrastructure begins,” stated Governor Trepeklis, highlighting the shift from mere repairs to the development of a substantially improved road network.

Part of a Broader Regional Development Plan

This project is an integral component of the Ionian Islands Regional Administration’s broader strategic plan to upgrade the road network and enhance travel safety across Corfu. The administration is actively working to secure the necessary resources to ensure the functional connection of these individual interventions along the same road axis. A key priority in this planning is the seamless integration of the newly developed section with the ongoing regeneration project in the Tsaki Benitson area, ensuring a cohesive and modernized transportation corridor.

Commitment to Infrastructure Improvement

The commencement of these roadworks underscores the Regional Administration’s commitment to investing in essential infrastructure that directly benefits residents and visitors alike. By addressing critical safety concerns and modernizing the road network, the project is expected to contribute to a more efficient and secure transportation system on the island of Corfu. Further updates on the project’s progress and additional planned interventions will be provided by the Ionian Islands Regional Administration as developments unfold.
