ATHENS, March 26 – Hilton, the international hotel chain, is significantly expanding its presence in Greece with the planned opening of four new luxury hotels in Athens, Corfu, Santorini, and Crete by 2026. This strategic move underscores Greece’s growing importance as a key development pillar for Hilton in Europe, capitalizing on the country’s robust tourism sector.

Hilton’s Rapid Expansion in Greece

Over the past five years, Hilton’s footprint in Greece has surged from just one hotel to over 50, with an additional 20 properties currently under development. The year 2026 is poised to be a landmark year, featuring geographical diversification, brand differentiation, and a strong emphasis on the luxury segment.

Conrad Athens The Ilisian: A New Landmark for the Capital

The most iconic addition is the Conrad Athens The Ilisian, scheduled to open in spring 2026. This hotel aims to become one of Athens’ premier luxury destinations, featuring 307 rooms and suites, many offering views of the Acropolis, Lycabettus Hill, and the sea. The project redefines a historic city property, focusing on wellness and gastronomy. Its wellness facilities span over 2,000 square meters, including a longevity clinic, indoor and outdoor pools, and a rooftop running track. The hotel also revives historic spaces like the Galaxy (as “The Galaxy Dispensary”) and Byzantino, connecting the new concept with the city’s heritage.

Conrad Corfu: Luxury Resort with Local Identity

In Corfu, the Conrad Corfu will be located on the island’s southern coast, offering a refined resort experience deeply connected to nature and local culture. The property will feature 136 rooms, suites, and villas, most with private pools or jacuzzis. It will offer open-air cinema, a kids’ club in a natural setting, and curated wellness programs. Gastronomy will be a key pillar, with three restaurants, two bars, and a signature fine-dining experience curated by award-winning chef Alexandros Tsiotinis. Its location provides easy access to beaches and iconic sites like Achilleion Palace and Corfu Old Town.

Sandblu Santorini, LXR Hotels & Resorts: LXR Brand Debut

Santorini will see the introduction of Hilton’s LXR Hotels & Resorts brand with the Sandblu Santorini, LXR Hotels & Resorts, set to open in April 2026. This 66-room resort will offer a quieter, personalized luxury experience away from mass tourism, leveraging its location above Kamari Beach. Its design draws inspiration from the volcanic landscape and Cycladic architecture, complemented by six dining venues, high-end wellness services, and activities rooted in local traditions. This investment reflects a shift towards curated luxury for high-income travelers seeking authenticity and privacy.

Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa: Year-Round Tourism in Crete

In Crete, the Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa will open in June 2026, aiming to bolster Chania’s appeal as a year-round destination. With 85 rooms and suites, all with private pools and Aegean Sea views, the hotel combines resort features with proximity to the urban center. It will include a 600-square-meter spa, a rooftop pool club, and conference facilities for up to 250 people, enhancing the MICE segment. Its closeness to Chania’s Old Town, with its Venetian harbor and historic core (recently added to the UNESCO list), adds significant value to the project.

Greece: From Secondary Market to Strategic Hub

Hilton’s aggressive expansion in Greece is a direct response to the country’s consistently strong tourism performance, marked by increasing demand from high-spending markets like the USA and the Middle East, and its evolution into a year-round destination. Hilton’s strategy focuses on three key areas:

  • Enhancing its luxury portfolio in mature destinations (Athens, Santorini).
  • Developing experiential resort models (Corfu, Crete).
  • Diversifying brands (Conrad, LXR, Hilton Hotels & Resorts).

This multi-layered approach creates a more sophisticated tourism product, appealing to both leisure and business travelers, while also boosting the country’s investment attractiveness.

Broader Market Implications

These four new Hilton openings serve as a barometer for the trajectory of Greek tourism: a shift towards higher-value visitors, infrastructure upgrades, and season extension are now top priorities. The introduction of new brands and the upgrading of iconic properties intensify competition in the luxury segment, pushing the entire market towards higher standards.
