The Production and Trade Committee of the Greek Parliament approved on November 3, 2025, the legislation ratifying the sub-concession agreement for the creation of the Corfu Megayacht Marina, opening the path for a project that will upgrade tourism and the economy of the island. This approval marks the launch of a high-specification investment, with emphasis on sustainability and long-term development.
€50 Million Investment for 410 Berths
The project, implemented by Lamda Corfu Marina S.A. and Lamda Marinas S.A., in cooperation with the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), the Corfu Port Authority S.A., and the Greek State, provides for the creation of a modern, high-specification marina with a total budget of approximately 50 million euros. The new infrastructure will have 410 berths for vessels up to 120 meters in length, offering comprehensive support and hospitality services for large recreational vessels.
The 40-year sub-concession includes the construction, operation, management, and maintenance of the marina, ensuring its sustainable and smooth operation in accordance with international standards. The new marina is not an upgrade of an existing infrastructure, but a development from scratch, with extensive reclamations and dredging that will shape a complete port for large vessels.
Competitive Tender Process and Financial Terms
The tender for the sub-concession began in February 2022 and was completed in 2023, when Lamda Marinas submitted the binding offer that was deemed the most advantageous by TAIPED. The contract provides for a one-time payment of 9.7 million euros and a percentage of 7.7% of annual turnover, with 50% of revenues directed to the development of other port infrastructure of the Superfund.
The Court of Audit approved the agreement in February 2024 and the signing took place in October of the same year, before being submitted for ratification to Parliament. This represents value creation from zero, as the State fully retains its rights over the property, granting only the use and not the ownership.
Economic and Social Impact on Corfu
Beyond its financial dimension, the Corfu Megayacht Marina has a strong developmental and social footprint. It is expected to strengthen the local economy, creating new jobs and providing a boost to sectors directly or indirectly connected with shipping, hospitality, vessel maintenance, gastronomy, and trade.
Local businesses will benefit from increased tourist traffic and the long-term presence of crews and high-income visitors on the island. Corfu has all the characteristics to evolve into a destination for luxury marine tourism. With the new marina, it will now be able to function as a homeport for large vessels, hosting crews and visitors throughout the year and extending the tourist season.
Infrastructure Upgrade and Environmental Sustainability
At the same time, this infrastructure will upgrade the coastal front of the city, enhancing the overall image and attractiveness of the island. The investment is part of TAIPED’s strategy for the utilization of public property and the development of port infrastructure that will strengthen Greece’s position as a Mediterranean hub for tourism and maritime services.
The marina will meet modern environmental sustainability specifications, with emphasis on reducing the energy footprint, proper waste management, and preservation of the marine ecosystem, fully aligned with European policies for green port infrastructure.
Strategic Importance for Greek Tourism
The significance of the project goes beyond the limits of an economic investment. Corfu, an island with a deep maritime tradition and a timeless cosmopolitan character, acquires an infrastructure that enhances its physiognomy as Greece’s gateway to the West. The new marina will not only be a berthing space, but a meeting point of cultures, experiences, and lifestyles, a modern landmark that will connect the island’s maritime heritage with its modern tourist identity.
In a period when Greek tourism is attempting the transition from mass to quality and from short stays to experiential experiences, the Corfu Megayacht Marina emerges as a milestone project of this new course. With the approval of the legislation, the island is preparing to be dynamically integrated into the international yachting map, acquiring an infrastructure that combines economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and high prestige, capable of highlighting the Ionian as one of the top destinations for marine tourism in the Mediterranean.
Employment and Year-Round Operations
The marina is expected to create numerous employment opportunities in various sectors, from direct marina operations to supporting services such as vessel maintenance, provisioning, hospitality, and luxury retail. The presence of superyachts and their crews throughout the year will provide stable, year-round employment, breaking the traditional seasonality pattern of Greek island tourism.
According to the project specifications, the facility will operate 365 days a year, providing services that meet the highest international standards for megayacht hospitality. This includes technical support, security, concierge services, and access to premium amenities that cater to the specific needs of superyacht owners and their guests.
The parliamentary approval represents the final legislative hurdle before construction can commence. The project is expected to be completed within the timeframe specified in the concession agreement, positioning Corfu as a premier destination in the competitive Mediterranean yachting market alongside established marinas in Monaco, Porto Cervo, and other luxury destinations.
