Edelweiss Launches Zurich-Corfu Route, Boosting Island’s Connectivity
Corfu, March 30 – Swiss airline Edelweiss is set to inaugurate its direct flight service between Zurich and Corfu on April 1st, 2026. This new route will significantly enhance air connectivity for the Ionian island, with flights scheduled to increase in frequency throughout the summer season.
Flight Schedule and Frequency
Initially, during April, Edelweiss will operate three flights per week. The frequency will then increase to four flights weekly in May. From June through October, the airline will offer up to five flights per week, concluding its 2026 flight program at the end of October.
All flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft, known for their efficiency and comfort on short to medium-haul routes. This strategic expansion by Edelweiss is expected to cater to the growing demand for direct access to Corfu from Central Europe, particularly from Switzerland.
Impact on Corfu Tourism
The introduction of this new route is anticipated to have a positive impact on Corfu’s tourism sector. Zurich, a major European hub, will now provide a direct link for Swiss tourists and those connecting through Switzerland, making the island more accessible for a broader international audience.
Local tourism stakeholders have expressed optimism regarding the increased flight capacity. “This new route from Edelweiss is excellent news for Corfu,” stated a representative from the local tourism board. “It strengthens our position as a premier European destination and opens up new opportunities for growth, especially from the Swiss market.”
The enhanced connectivity is crucial for the island’s economy, which relies heavily on tourism. Direct flights like these facilitate easier travel, encourage longer stays, and potentially attract a higher volume of visitors throughout the extended tourist season.
Edelweiss’s Commitment to Greece
Edelweiss, a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines and a member of the Lufthansa Group, has been steadily expanding its network to popular holiday destinations. The addition of Corfu to its schedule underscores the airline’s commitment to the Greek market and its confidence in the island’s appeal to international travelers.
This development is part of a broader trend of airlines increasing their services to Greek islands, recognizing their enduring popularity among European tourists. The consistent increase in flight frequencies and the introduction of new routes are vital for sustaining and further developing Greece’s tourism industry.
Travelers planning a trip to Corfu from Zurich or connecting through Zurich can now look forward to more convenient and flexible travel options, starting from April 1st, 2026.
