Corfu, May 1, 2026 – Residents of Corfu, represented by the Permanent Residents and Garitsa Grove associations, have voiced strong opposition to the Central Corfu Municipal Council’s decision to increase municipal fees. In a joint statement, the associations highlighted that while a ‘formal error’ in a previous decision regarding the fee increase was corrected, the core issue remains: citizens are being asked to pay more without experiencing a corresponding improvement in the services they receive.
New Financial Burdens Amidst Economic Strain
The municipal authority’s move to rectify the formal error effectively makes the new financial burdens on citizens ‘legal.’ However, the associations emphasize that this does not change the underlying problem.
