Corfu, November 27 – Several areas across the island of Corfu are experiencing significant power outages following a period of severe weather. The adverse conditions, characterized by heavy rainfall and intense lightning activity, are attributed to a low-pressure system affecting the Ionian Islands and large parts of Greece.

Widespread Power Disruptions Across Corfu

The intense rainfall and numerous lightning strikes that occurred yesterday have left many regions on the island without electricity. The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) is making every possible effort to restore power to the affected areas. As of now, at least seven localities have reported power supply issues.

Affected Areas Include:

  • Benitses
  • Moraitika
  • Chlomos
  • Kavos
  • Karousades
  • Kanalia
  • Potamos

DEDDIE teams are actively engaged in repairing the damage and restoring electricity. The exact timeline for full restoration in all affected areas is yet to be determined, but crews are working diligently to address the widespread disruptions caused by the inclement weather.

Impact of the Low-Pressure System

The current weather phenomenon is part of a broader low-pressure system that has brought substantial rainfall and strong lightning activity to the region. This system has been impacting not only the Ionian Islands but also a significant portion of mainland Greece, leading to various disruptions.

Local authorities have advised residents to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest weather updates. The primary concern remains the safety of the public and the swift restoration of essential services.

Response and Restoration Efforts

DEDDIE officials have confirmed that all available resources are being mobilized to tackle the power outages. The complexity of the repairs is exacerbated by the ongoing weather conditions, but technicians are working around the clock to ensure power is restored as quickly and safely as possible.

Further updates on the power restoration efforts will be provided by DEDDIE and local authorities as the situation develops. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to report any new outages and to remain patient during this challenging period.
