Corfu: A Magnet for Hotel Investments from International and Local Groups

Corfu, Greece – February 12, 2026 – The island of Corfu is rapidly becoming a prime destination for significant hotel investments, attracting major international chains and local development groups. This investment surge is largely propelled by the sustained high demand for Corfu’s diverse tourism offerings, which cater to both families seeking all-inclusive experiences and a more discerning clientele interested in premium units and luxury residences.

A notable trend in this development is the increasing prevalence of partnerships between foreign investors and local tourism stakeholders. This marks a shift from previous years, indicating a growing confidence among international businesses in local collaborations.

Robust Tourism Growth Fuels Investment

Data concerning air and sea traffic to the Ionian island further supports the optimistic outlook for tourism in 2026. Projections include a substantial 50% expansion of Corfu Airport’s terminal in the coming years. The “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Airport has become the third busiest among the 14 airports managed by Fraport, having served over four million passengers in 2025. This represents an impressive increase in traffic during the shoulder months, with a 33.8% rise in spring and an 82.8% increase in autumn compared to 2019 figures.

Furthermore, a recent conference highlighted a significant increase in cruise tourism, with over two million passengers and 1.6 million international movements recorded. Cruise passenger numbers for 2025 reached 894,179 (including approximately 195,000 homeporting passengers), marking a 9.72% increase from 2024. Forecasts for 2026 anticipate this number to reach 998,244 passengers.

Hilton’s Conrad Brand Arrives in Corfu

In a significant development, the luxury Conrad hotel, under the Hilton brand, is expected to open its doors in Corfu within a few months, almost concurrently with a similar Hilton property in Athens. This project is a collaboration between Hilton and the Troulis family, who own the property. The hotel will be situated in the Molos area, approximately 40 km from Corfu Airport, with Numo Hotels & Resorts managing its operations.

Beyond its 136 rooms, pools, and wellness center, the new Conrad Corfu will feature two-story villas with private pools available for rent, targeting a more premium clientele from Greece and abroad.

Wyndham Expands Presence in Corfu

The international tourism chain Wyndham is also investing in Corfu, in partnership with the Canadian firm Mercan. Mercan initially gained recognition for its luxury residential reconstruction project in Piraeus. This new Wyndham hotel will be located in the Acharavi area of North Corfu, with ongoing expansion work expected to be completed in the coming months. The hotel, currently with a capacity of 150 rooms, is planned to expand in two phases, ultimately reaching a total capacity of 250 rooms, including an additional 100 premium rooms.

Extensive renovations, energy efficiency upgrades, and facility enhancements are also underway at the property. The unit is scheduled to open to the public on April 1st, marking Mercan’s strategic decision to invest in Greek tourism after its successful ventures in Portugal.

Local Entrepreneurs Also Expanding

Local entrepreneurs are also actively contributing to Corfu’s hotel boom. The new 5-star Dunes Nissos Resort in Corfu is currently undergoing the licensing process, with an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) in progress. This project involves the construction of a new 5-star hotel unit, the “Dunes Nissos Resort,” also in North Corfu, and is projected to be ready by the end of 2026.

This investment is spearheaded by CORFU LUX INVESTMENT S.A., operating under the distinctive title “NESOS CORFU SA,” led by businessman Konstantinos Karoumbis. The investment involves a new 5-star hotel complex of furnished apartments with a capacity of 130 beds, developed on a plot of 17,779.72 m2 in the Livadia or Almyros area of the wider Acharavi region, within the Peritheia Community, Thinalio Municipal Unit, and North Corfu Municipality. The complex will feature 53 rooms, swimming pools, tennis courts, an outdoor cinema, and wellness centers.

Simultaneously, information suggests that the Rocca family, prominent hotel operators in Corfu for decades, is also investing in a new unit in North Corfu. In 2025, Mayor Hotels also invested in the island with two new hotels, adding to an existing one, with the first phase of their investment reaching 13 million euros.
