In recent years, combat sports events have evolved beyond traditional fights, combining high-level competition, big names, and entertainment. Major cities now serve as international destinations for events targeting a global audience, not just local fan bases. The “Battle of the Legends” event, scheduled for June 27, 2026, at the Telecom Center Athens, aims to place the Greek capital on the map of major international sports events.
The Main Event: Mayweather vs. Zambidis
The central battle of the evening will see Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. face Mike “Iron” Zambidis. Mayweather, an undefeated American professional boxer with a 50-0 record and 15 world titles across five weight divisions, is known for his defensive mastery and strategic approach in the ring. His opponent, Mike “Iron” Zambidis, is one of Greece’s most significant fighters of recent decades, boasting 18 world titles, 158 wins in 180 professional fights, and 87 knockouts. Zambidis has left a strong mark in international competitions, particularly through his presence in Japan’s K-1 and his characteristic aggressive style. This matchup brings together two different schools of combat sports.
An Event with an International Focus
The “Battle of the Legends” is not limited to the main event. The program includes high-level matches with international and Greek athletes in sports such as Greco-Roman wrestling, Kick Boxing, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA. Additionally, a world title fight will take place, enhancing the competitive nature and international dimension of the event.
Organizers have also invested in the entertainment aspect, with the program featuring a live performance by an international artist and the presence of well-known personalities from the worlds of sports, cinema, and music. This aligns with the modern approach of major sports entertainment events.
The overall goal is to organize a comprehensive sports entertainment event, comparable to major international productions. The event aspires to transcend the boundaries of a simple sporting event and offer a multifaceted experience with international appeal.
Anticipated High Interest
Interest in the “Battle of the Legends” is expected to be very high, as it is one of the rare occasions where big names in global sports appear in Greece with such a high level of production and promotion. Therefore, if you want to experience it firsthand, book your tickets soon.
