Athens, November 21 – The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially announced the upcoming 2nd Greek Youth Diaspora Symposium. Titled “Diaspora Dialogues: Connecting Young Voices Around the World,” this event has quickly established itself as a significant annual gathering for young members of the Greek diaspora.
Symposium to Foster Global Collaboration and Cultural Exchange
The symposium is scheduled to take place from November 25 to 28 at the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Centre in Athens. This four-day event will bring together Greek youth aged 18 to 25 from various corners of the globe, providing a platform for them to engage as panelists. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, proposals, and perspectives on the future trajectory of Hellenism.
Key Figures and Thematic Focus
According to an official statement, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis is slated to inaugurate the symposium. Discussions will be moderated by a diverse group of distinguished academics, business leaders, and political representatives. Their role will be to guide and shape the dialogues in a creative and meaningful manner, ensuring productive exchanges among the young participants.
A core objective of the symposium is to highlight new avenues for collaboration, networking, and cultural exchange. This is particularly crucial for young Greeks living abroad and their counterparts in Greece, especially in the context of contemporary global challenges and evolving technological and social landscapes.
Returning Ambassadors and New Initiatives
A notable feature of this year’s event will be the return of participants from the inaugural symposium. These individuals, previously designated as Greek Youth Diaspora Ambassadors 2024, will present their projects and initiatives, receiving formal recognition for their contributions. In turn, the new panelists participating in this year’s symposium will be declared Greek Youth Diaspora Ambassadors 2025. They will assume the responsibility of conceptualizing and executing actions aimed at promoting and elevating the Greek diaspora throughout the coming year.
Organizers have characterized the event as “a growing institution, an annual meeting point and an open channel of dialogue that remains active and creative throughout the year.” This underscores the symposium’s commitment to fostering ongoing engagement and collaboration beyond the four-day gathering.
Diverse Topics for Forward-Thinking Dialogue
The thematic sessions of the symposium are designed to encourage forward-thinking dialogue, with a strong emphasis on empowering young Greeks across continents to co-create solutions and build a shared vision for the future of global Hellenism. The discussions will cover a wide array of topics, reflecting the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing the Greek diaspora:
- Cultural identity and heritage
- Greek language and the arts
- Education, AI, and innovation
- Sustainable development and environmental concerns
- Volunteerism, sport, and youth participation in social cohesion
These diverse themes aim to stimulate comprehensive discussions that address both the preservation of Greek identity and the engagement with contemporary global issues. The symposium seeks to strengthen ties with the homeland and facilitate a collective effort towards a vibrant future for Greeks worldwide.
