Athens, November 19 – The Municipality of Athens has announced the revival of the canteen on Strefi Hill, aiming to transform the former ‘Extrovert’ into a vibrant social hub. This initiative seeks to provide affordable services and foster community engagement through the operation of social and non-profit organizations.
A New Chapter for Strefi Hill Canteen
The canteen, spanning 94.36 square meters, will be granted free of charge for a period of five years to selected social, non-profit organizations or social economy entities. The chosen organization will be responsible for operating the canteen, offering items at low cost, and implementing various community-based activities within the space. All financial income generated will be dedicated to social activities, ensuring that the canteen directly benefits the local community.
The selected organization will also be required to cover all operating and maintenance costs of the canteen, promoting a sustainable and self-sufficient model.
Mayoral Vision: Revitalizing Public Spaces
Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Strefi Hill is regaining its pulse and life. The former ‘Extrovert’ is reopening with a social focus. The canteen will be a new meeting point for residents and visitors to the area, offering quality services at affordable prices. We are utilizing municipal property in a way that returns value to residents, supports collective initiatives and strengthens the city’s social economy.”
Deputy Mayor for Education, Digital Governance, Property and Construction, Paris Charlaftis, further emphasized the collaborative nature of the project: “We are giving the opportunity to social, non-profit organizations of the city and the social economy to actively contribute to the upgrading of the life of the Hill, by taking over the operation of the canteen with respect for the environment, the public nature of the space and the cohesion of the community.”
