Athens, Greece – Public transport services across the greater Athens area will operate on a reduced, Sunday and public-holiday schedule on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, December 25 and 26, 2025. This means less frequent services on all bus and trolleybus routes, as well as rail lines, according to STASY, the public transport operator.
Temporary Modifications to Bus Routes
In addition to the reduced holiday schedule, several bus routes will experience temporary modifications. These changes are attributed to ongoing roadworks and public events scheduled for the holiday season.
Specifically, on Christmas Day, bus route 704, a circular line serving northern Athens between Agioi Anargyroi and Kamatero, will run on a revised route from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In Piraeus, bus route 826 will be rerouted between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. due to roadworks.
Further changes to bus route 826 in Piraeus are also scheduled for December 27, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., again because of road construction works.
Impact on Commuters and Travelers
The reduced schedule and route modifications are expected to affect commuters and travelers relying on public transport during the festive period. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and check for real-time updates from STASY to avoid any inconvenience.
The decision to implement a reduced schedule is a common practice during public holidays in Greece, reflecting lower demand for public transport services as many residents travel or spend time at home with families.
