In an effort to ease travel for citizens during the upcoming Easter period, the Municipality of Athens announced that it will commence returning confiscated driving licenses for cars and motorcycles starting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th. These licenses were previously removed by the Municipal Police.
Exemptions for Certain Violations
However, not all confiscated licenses will be returned. Specifically, those that were removed due to antisocial parking violations, such as parking on ramps for people with disabilities (R-71, R-72), will not be reissued. Furthermore, licenses confiscated as a result of judicial decisions will also remain withheld.
Required Documents for License Retrieval
The return of driving licenses will be processed at the offices of the Municipal Police of the Municipality of Athens, located at Liosion 22, ground floor. Citizens wishing to retrieve their licenses must present the necessary documentation for collection. This includes their vehicle registration permit, a valid insurance policy, their police ID card, or a certified authorization in cases where a third party will be collecting the license on their behalf. The service will be available daily from 09:00 to 14:30.
This initiative aims to support residents in their Easter travel plans, allowing for smoother commutes during the holiday season, while still upholding regulations regarding severe traffic infractions.
