🚨 Athens Just Got 4 New Food Spots That Are SERIOUSLY Changing the Game! You WON’T Believe Your Taste Buds! 🤯

Okay, Athens, let’s be real. This city can be tough, right? The hustle, the bustle, the… well, everything! But if there’s one thing that makes it all worth it, it’s our incredible food scene. Those little temples of flavor, aroma, and places where we meet our favorite people (or even ourselves!).

What makes a city a “city”? Its hangouts! And while we obsessively love our usual spots, the ones near home or work, we also NEED new blood to shake us out of our routine. Who knows? Maybe some of these new Athens spots will become our future go-tos!

1. “Ela to Souvlaki”: Psyrri’s New Old-School Souvlaki Joint! 🌯

Hold up! On Miaouli Street, number 15A, a new souvlaki place has already made a HUGE splash. And guess what? NO FRIES. Seriously. Just fresh meat (the patty is EXCELLENT, btw), crispy veggies, and a pita that’s pure deliciousness. It’s small, but mighty in flavor and value. This souvlaki is about to go VIRAL, just like quality, traditional food has been doing lately – especially when it’s affordable and doesn’t break the bank!

Grab it to go or enjoy it with a cold beer at their comfy outdoor stands, perfect for people-watching in the always-lively city center. You know you want to! 😉

2. “Thirio”: Where Gourmet Meets Intimacy (and Instagram-Worthy Dishes!) 🍽️

Alright, now we’re stepping into gourmet territory! Thirio, located on Navarchou Nikodimou, is a small but mighty space with interiors designed by 9Design. Two spacious bars create an interactive experience, almost like a Japanese omakase, where chefs connect directly with guests. Chef Thomas Matsas, alongside Christos Nydriotis and the kitchen team, is serving up a modern take on Greek gastronomy.

Think dishes like dolmas with a blend of lamb and beef, wrapped in “burnt” savoy cabbage, or a pastitsada rooster in the form of a cinnamon roll (YES, you read that right!). And don’t even get us started on the bianco with fresh fish of the day. Foodies are already OBSESSED! Their wine list focuses on Greek vineyards, with a few international gems thrown in. Psst… Thirio is expanding into the next-door space soon, probably by mid-February! Get ready for more deliciousness! 🥂

3. “Farin Moua”: Your Dream Microbakery Just Opened in Peristeri! 🥐

Over in Peristeri, on Erythraias Street – an area that’s seriously stepping up its food game – a microbakery with serious style and character has arrived! Think those cool, artisanal bakeries you’ve seen popping up in central Athens, but with its own unique vibe. The production is small, but the quality is HUGE.

  • Sourdough breads that will make your heart sing! 🍞
  • Sandwiches on focaccia and rye – perfect for lunch! 🥪
  • Sweet treats like cinnamon rolls and Basque cheesecake (OMG!) 🍰
  • And even traditional ladenia and hand-rolled pies! 🥧

The space is subtly decorated with vintage touches, from porcelain to a velvet sofa, and they serve specialty coffee from Taf. Plus, their Greek coffee (made in a briki!) comes with a Syros loukoumi. Pure bliss! You NEED to check this out! 😍

4. “Zigoala”: Old-School Vibe, NEXT-LEVEL Flavors in Omonia! 🕰️

Konstantinos Dagritzikos has done it again! His new creation in Omonia, “Zigoala,” brings the retro charm of a neighborhood “mageireio” (traditional eatery) with Chef Vasilis Hamam at the helm. And let us tell you, his dishes are LEGENDARY!

Chef Hamam draws inspiration from Eastern Mediterranean ingredients and recipes, reinterpreting them into masterpieces. We’re talking raw Koilada shrimp in a lotus salad, beef tongue with Russian salad, mutton with xinohondros trahanas, kefir, and pine nuts, and even Palestinian chicken with cardamom and onions. Mind. Blown. 🤯

And for dessert? Just one, but it’s a winner: baked quince in an Arabian coffee namelaka with caramel. Convinced yet? We thought so! 😉
