Athens, October 30 – The Ekfrasi – Yianna Grammatopoulou Art Gallery (9A Valaoritou) presents Athens-born artist Marigo Kassi’s solo installation “Armoire au Féminin”, on view through November 22. Admission is free. This exhibition explores the wardrobe as a distinctly feminine symbol – an everyday household item that also serves as a vessel for memories, emotions, and secrets.
What visitors will see
At the heart of the presentation is a vintage three-door wardrobe that has been physically taken apart. Its doors, hinges, and interior fittings are repurposed and incorporated into a series of mixed-media works combining drawing, assemblage, and found materials. The physical layout is accompanied by sound compositions by Andrea Cohen, adding an audio dimension that connects the objects and images with memory and atmosphere throughout the gallery’s rooms.
Themes and approach
The installation explores the female psyche and body, touching on motherhood, intimacy, relationships, pain, and experiences of abuse. By reconfiguring a domestic object linked to privacy and care, Kassi presents the wardrobe as both a refuge and an archive – a place where personal stories are protected, hidden, and revisited, and where individual memory connects with collective experience. The work treats the boundary between private life and public visibility as a space for both vulnerability and resilience.
Artist and venue
Marigo Kassi, an Athens native, presents her project at Ekfrasi – Yianna Grammatopoulou Art Gallery, a contemporary art space in central Athens. The address is 9A Valaoritou. This exhibition is part of the gallery’s visual arts program and is set up as a walk-through installation leading visitors past sculptural components and sound elements.
Dates, access and admission
“Armoire au Féminin” is open from October 30 to November 22 in Athens. Admission is free. It is recommended that visitors check directly with the gallery for opening hours and any program updates during the exhibition’s run.
By presenting the wardrobe as both a container and a stage, the installation encourages a thoughtful viewing experience that highlights memory, care, and the concept of personal space. Through its mix of deconstructed furniture, mixed media, and sound, it illustrates how everyday objects can hold traces of trauma and tenderness while safeguarding stories that are both private and collective.
