Corfu, May 3 – A 35-year-old woman was medically evacuated from Corfu to Igoumenitsa on Friday, May 2, for urgent hospital treatment. The transfer was carried out by a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boat, following a directive from the Port Operations Center.

Urgent Medical Transfer by Coast Guard

The Hellenic Coast Guard – Hellenic Port Police announced that the medical transfer of a 35-year-old patient, who required immediate hospital care, was successfully completed. The operation involved transporting the woman from the port of Corfu to the port of Igoumenitsa using a Coast Guard patrol vessel.

This is another instance of the Coast Guard performing crucial medical transfers to ensure that residents of the Ionian Islands receive timely medical attention when necessary.

Details of the Operation

The transfer took place on May 2, 2026. While specific details regarding the patient’s condition were not disclosed, the announcement emphasized the necessity of immediate hospital care, underscoring the urgency of the operation.

The Hellenic Coast Guard frequently undertakes such missions, especially in island regions, where access to specialized medical facilities can be limited. These operations are vital for providing essential health services to island populations.

Other Recent Incidents in Corfu and the Ionian Islands

This medical transfer follows other recent events in the Ionian Islands. On May 2, temporary traffic arrangements were implemented on Dimarchou Kolla Street in Corfu. The Corfu Fire Department also announced the start of the 2026 fire season, issuing protection guidelines and restrictions.

In other news from the region, an inauguration of a Holy Church took place in Corfu. Additionally, a 26-year-old woman was also medically transferred from Corfu to Igoumenitsa recently.

The Ionian Islands have also seen various incidents, including the arrest of a wanted individual in Zakynthos, traffic measures for safe travel during May Day, and the tragic toxicology results for Myrto in Kefalonia, indicating a ‘cocktail of death’ from drugs and alcohol. In Lefkada, an individual was arrested for driving under the influence, and 107 violations for not wearing protective helmets were recorded across the Ionian Islands.

Weather and Other News

The weather forecast for Corfu indicates a drop in temperature, rain, and northern winds, with temperatures expected to fall by up to 7°C. The Eurostat also ranked Greece first in weekend work, with three out of ten Greeks working beyond the five-day week.

The presence of purple jellyfish has increased in Greek seas, with floating barriers being used to combat them. An accident in Araxos resulted in three journalists being injured during an event for Tui’s first aircraft landing. Furthermore, Greek authorities intercepted a ‘golden cargo’ of 1.7 million, blocking half a ton of hashish.

The medical transfer highlights the ongoing efforts of the Hellenic Coast Guard to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens in the Greek islands.
