Between 6 and 16 October 2025, the City of Athens is sending an e-waste recycling van to neighborhoods across the capital. It gives residents an easy way to hand in small electrical and electronic items the right way. Today’s stop runs from 10:00 to 16:00, and the van is out this week in both central and outlying communities.
Where and when can you take part?
The van runs daily from 10:00 to 16:00 at the spots listed by the municipality. The current route includes these Athens stops:
- 5th Municipal Community – 6 & 7 October: forecourt of Agia Varvara Church (ISAP Ano Patisia)
- 1st Municipal Community – 8 October: forecourt of Agios Dionysios Church
- 6th Municipal Community – 9 October: Koliatsou Square (near 28is Oktovriou & Sifnou)
- 7th Municipal Community – 10 October: Gyzi Square; 13 October: Ellinorosson Square
- 4th Municipal Community – 14 October: Sepolia metro station
- 3rd Municipal Community – 15 October: Ious Square
- 2nd Municipal Community – 16 October: Neos Kosmos – Machis Analatou Square (Ilia Iliou & perimeter square)
Who can participate?
Everyone living in the city can take part. Use the stop closest to you and bring only small household devices, as specified by the organizers.
How are city leaders supporting it?
Mayor Haris Doukas said that “recycling is a way of life and an investment in our city’s future,” and added that Athens aims to lead the shift to a circular economy where “nothing goes to waste.” Deputy Mayor for Sanitation and Recycling Roxani Bei noted that the partnership with Appliances Recycling S.A. and the specially equipped van offers an easy, safe way for residents to recycle old devices instead of sending them to landfill.
What can you bring?
According to the announcement, the van accepts small electrical and electronic items, such as:
- mobile phones and tablets
- toasters, mixers and similar small appliances
- light bulbs
- toner and ink cartridges
Why now?
The tour lines up with International E-Waste Recycling Day on 14 October, highlighting the growing need for proper disposal of electronic waste.
What does this mean for Athens?
The benefits are environmental, economic and social. Fewer materials end up in landfills, which reduces soil and water pollution; hazardous substances are kept out of the environment; and valuable metals, glass and plastics are recovered for reuse, saving energy compared with producing virgin materials. For residents, the neighborhood stops make responsible recycling simpler and closer to home.
