Over 22 kilograms of cannabis were seized in a pre-dawn police raid on Sunday, 28 September, at a warehouse in Markopoulo in Attica. The operation was led by the Agios Panteleimonas Drug and Crime Investigation Department, working with the DIAS motorcycle unit from Agios Panteleimonas. Officers found a 41-year-old foreign national inside the premises, arrested him on suspicion of breaking Greece’s narcotics laws, and then brought him before the prosecutor.

What did officers find during the raid?

According to police, the search of the warehouse turned up the following:

  • 22,781 grams of raw cannabis;
  • 2 precision digital scales;
  • many cannabis seeds; and
  • lots of nylon bags for packaging and further distribution across Attica, especially to areas in central Athens.

How did authorities locate the Markopoulo warehouse?

The Hellenic Police said the operation started with a solid tip from DIAS officers working in the Agios Panteleimonas area of Athens. Investigators from the Agios Panteleimonas Drug and Crime Investigation Department confirmed the location by analyzing and cross-checking incoming information, then running physical surveillance and on-site checks planned and carried out by the team.

What does this mean for the city?

Police believe the seized quantities were headed for distribution across Attica, notably in neighborhoods of central Athens. In plain terms, this bust should slow supply for a while and fits with ongoing efforts to cut street-level dealing that affects local communities.

Who was detained in the warehouse?

A 41-year-old foreign national was found inside the facility and arrested on drug-related charges. Authorities did not share further personal details at the time of reporting. The suspect was taken to the prosecutor to start the judicial process.

What remains to be clarified?

Police did not disclose the exact address of the warehouse, the origin of the drugs, or any ties to a broader distribution network. What happens next wasn’t specified and will follow the prosecutor’s directions.

How did local authorities respond?

This coordinated action in the wider Athens area shows how specialist investigative units work with fast-response DIAS teams. While the warehouse was in Markopoulo, the case is directly relevant to Athens because the intended distribution pointed to the city’s center and other parts of Attica.

Where to find official updates?

Expect updates through Hellenic Police announcements and reporting by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA). At the time of publication, no additional information had been released.
