Why does the Athens Art Book Fair draw crowds?
Now in its sixth edition, the fair brings together 150+ artists and publishers from Greece and 35 other countries. The spotlight is on independent publishing in many forms: zines, visual art journals, photobooks, small-press magazines, artist monographs, poetry, research and critical writing, plus the odd editorial experiment that refuses neat labels.

Alongside dozens of Athens-based imprints, the program spotlights international showcases such as Esmat Publishes (Egypt), WARAQ (Lebanon), Tehran Zine (Iran), Kona Books (Georgia), Studio Pangolin (Croatia), Oficyna Peryferie (Poland), PrivatePrint (North Macedonia), Ediciones Caradura (Mexico), Lafat Bordieu (Chile) and Editorial Tubito (Argentina). The exhibitor list stretches across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.
What does the public program offer?
A parallel Public Program adds exhibitions and live actions that introduce audiences to current practices and give room for a closer look. It brings together media that complement publishing, including sound, performance, experimental music and radio art. The annual Collective Display extends the main exhibition, presenting 100+ art publications by emerging artists, alongside a curated selection from the growing archive of the Athens Art Book Library.
What are the headline events this weekend?
The fair kicks off today, Friday 3 October, with concerts by exhibitors Lorena Marina and Maria No Pressure. On Saturday 4 October, the fair’s fourth collaboration with the publishing collective ΜΠΑΤΑΡΙΑ brings a queer poetry slam that celebrates poetry, hybridity and creative defiance.
