ATHENS, Greece – ARCAthens has officially announced the open call for its Fall 2026 Athens Residency. This year marks a significant expansion and return of the organization’s Fall Residency, which will now operate in a new, extended three-month format.

Significant Support from Stavros Niarchos Foundation

This announcement comes on the heels of renewed two-year support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). This crucial funding is set to fortify and broaden ARCAthens’ existing residency and research fellowship programs, fostering greater exchange between Greece and the United States.

Founded in 2017, ARCAthens has been dedicated to facilitating dialogue and collaboration among artists, curators, and scholars. Its programs are research-driven, deeply embedded in local cultural and social contexts, and designed for sustained engagement. Over the past year, ARCAthens has consistently expanded the scope and duration of its offerings, both in Athens and the United States. This includes the development of the extended three-month residency in Athens and the continued growth of its NOLA/NYC Research Fellowship.

Fall 2026 Athens Residency Details

The Fall 2026 Athens Residency is scheduled to run from September 10 to November 30, 2026. It will bring together an international cohort of Fellows for a comprehensive and structured program. This program will include studio visits, institutional meetings, site engagements, public presentations, and dedicated time for independent research across Athens.

Increased Financial Support for Fellows

A key enhancement for the Fall 2026 cycle is the increase in financial support for participating Fellows. ARCAthens will raise its Fellowship award from $2,000 to $3,000. Additionally, the weekly living stipend will be increased from $150 to $200. These adjustments are designed to provide more robust direct support to the artists, curators, and scholars involved in the program.

Aristides Logothetis, Founder and Executive Director of ARCAthens, expressed his enthusiasm for these developments: “It is an important moment for ARCAthens and for the future of the organization’s programs. Support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) strengthens our ability to provide sustained and meaningful opportunities for artists, curators, and scholars working between Greece and the United States, while allowing us to continue expanding the depth, duration, and level of support offered through our residencies and fellowships.”

The application deadline for the Fall 2026 Athens Residency is Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

For further information, press inquiries, or detailed application instructions, interested parties are encouraged to visit the official ARCAthens website at arcathens.org or contact [email protected].

Upcoming Summer Programming

In addition to the residency announcement, ARCAthens is preparing for its summer programming. On Thursday, June 25, at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens’ Cotsen Hall, ARCAthens will host a public program featuring artist Dawn DeDeaux. DeDeaux’s work is renowned for its engagement with the cultural, environmental, and social landscapes of New Orleans.

This special presentation is particularly significant as it coincides with DeDeaux’s participation in the upcoming Venice Biennale. It underscores ARCAthens’ ongoing commitment to fostering transnational artistic dialogue and cultural exchange between Greece and the United States.
