Corfu Mayor Meets International Bodies for Koi.S.P.E.’s 20th Anniversary

Corfu, May 19 – On Friday, May 15, the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, along with Deputy Mayor for Tourism Spyros Chalikiopoulos, hosted a high-level delegation of international and national bodies at the historic Town Hall. These delegates were guests of Koi.S.P.E. Corfu, attending the cooperative’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

The meeting was held in conjunction with the anniversary events organized by the Cooperative, marking two decades of continuous operation and social contribution.

Distinguished Guests and Productive Discussions

Among the invited guests were representatives from the European Commission and the World Health Organization (WHO), executives from the European Confederation of Social Enterprises, senior officials from the Ministries of Social Cohesion, Health, and Finance, as well as Presidents of Social Cooperatives from across Greece.

The guests expressed keen interest in the social and economic landscape of the island. A productive discussion ensued, focusing on the real conditions and complex demands of local activities, while also highlighting the challenges faced by Local Government.

Mayor Emphasizes Support for Social Economy

During the visit, the Mayor praised the long-standing work of Koi.S.P.E. Corfu and underscored that the continuous support for the Cooperative is a strategic choice of the Municipal Authority. This commitment is evidenced through ongoing synergies and stable collaborations that have yielded excellent results.

As specifically noted, the Municipality actively supports the social economy, recognizing that the substantive integration of marginalized social groups is not merely a moral obligation but a process with multiplicative benefits for all parties involved: for the individuals themselves, the local economy, and the social cohesion of the region.

The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands continues to prioritize initiatives that foster social inclusion and economic development, reinforcing its dedication to the principles championed by organizations like Koi.S.P.E.
