Athens, Greece – The Athens Jazz Festival is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special, week-long event that promises to transform Technopolis City of Athens into a vibrant hub of music, rhythm, and energy. From May 25 to May 31, 2026, the festival will showcase 20 acts from both Greece and abroad, pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz and offering free admission to all attendees.

A Quarter-Century of Jazz Innovation

The 25th edition of the Athens Jazz Festival is not merely a retrospective but a dynamic statement of continuity, looking towards the future of jazz while honoring its rich legacy. The festival aims to redefine the genre’s limits, presenting a bold, extroverted, and lively program that embraces all possible sonic combinations and transcends geographical and musical confines.

Artists and groups from Greece and around the world will take to the Technopolis stage to highlight the freshest sounds in modern jazz. The program, carefully curated, is designed to be an immersive narrative, exploring the multifaceted expressions of the genre. It’s an experience for those who love evolving music that defies labels, music that can be danced to, and most importantly, experienced collectively.

Highlighting the Lineup: A Diverse Musical Journey

The festival’s anniversary celebration includes a special Greek day dedicated to its journey. On Monday, May 25, the Stavros Lantsias Quartet will open with “My Ennio Morricone,” a tribute to Giorgos Charonitis, a pivotal collaborator of Athens Jazz. Following this, the Greek Cooking Band, formed specifically for this 25th edition, will connect American jazz history with authentic Greek folk roots.

Tuesday, May 26, features the unconventional jazz trio Lesni Zver from the Czech Republic, followed by Denmark’s OTOOTO, who blend hypnagogic pop and electronic avant-garde. The evening concludes with Germany’s nu-jazz quintet Conic Rose, promising a mystical and immersive experience.

On Wednesday, May 27, Estonian Keelepeksjad will reinterpret folk melodies with electro jazz rock grooves. Norway’s elephant9 will then test fusion boundaries with their electric jazz rock. The night closes with the UK’s Alabaster DePlume, offering a unique cross-genre soundscape of spiritual jazz and vulnerable folk.

Thursday, May 28, brings the Ermis Michael Trio from Cyprus, followed by Poland’s Kosmonauci, who effortlessly blend future jazz, drum ‘n’ bass, and jazzy hip hop. The Hungarian trio Jazzbois, beloved by contemporary sound aficionados, will close the night with cosmic beats and hip hop flair.

Friday, May 29, promises a raw, street-energy hip hop, punk rock attitude, and modern jazz fusion from Luxembourg’s LINQ. Spain’s Irene Reig Quartet will deliver powerful hard bop, leading into Italy’s Gianluca Petrella Cosmic Renaissance, offering radical cosmic freedom and nu-soulful jazz possibilities.

The most dance-inducing day, Saturday, May 30, starts with Romania’s Amphitrio, exploring cultural diversity. Switzerland’s the BIG TUSK will then blur improvisational boundaries, followed by Austria’s Elektro Guzzi, who create analog techno live, demonstrating a unique sound identity that challenges genre definitions.

The final day, Sunday, May 31, features Sweden’s Rebecka Törnqvist, whose sound is fragile yet raw. Brazil’s Esdras Nogueira Quintet will open up traditional Brazilian paths with tight Latin jazz and Afrobeat. The festival concludes with France’s Lagon Nwar, whose live performance is an experience that transcends recordings, blending memories from Burkina Faso, avant-garde, Creole tradition, and European pop.

Athens Jazz: A Cultural Landmark

For 25 years, the Athens Jazz Festival has been a consistent, timeless, and vibrant cultural institution in Athens, solidifying its status as an absolute urban landmark. This anniversary edition honors its past achievements, celebrates its present vibrancy, and paves the way for future innovations in the world of jazz.
