Athens, March 21, 2026 – A new concept establishment, Misa, has opened its doors in Athens, introducing a ‘japandi’ brew bar that combines Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian functionality. Located at Praxitelous 15, Misa aims to offer Athenians a unique space for relaxation and enjoyment of Asian-inspired beverages and culinary delights.
Misa: Where Japandi Design Meets Matcha Culture
The term ‘japandi’ refers to a design trend that merges the serene, minimalist beauty of Japanese aesthetics with the warmth and practicality of Scandinavian design. Vasilis, the owner of Misa, explained that his vision for the brew bar was to create a modern, relaxed, yet elegant environment where coffee, matcha, the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi (finding perfection in imperfection), and the Danish concept of hygge (coziness and contentment) converge.
Inspired by his travels in Japan and Europe, and with prior experience in the hospitality sector through a brunch establishment in Mykonos, Vasilis sought to bring this unique blend to Athens. The interior of Misa reflects this philosophy, featuring natural materials, wood, clean lines, and minimalist surfaces that immediately evoke a sense of calm. Ceramic objects, low tables, subtle decorative details, and the traditional Japanese lucky cat figurines (maneki-neko) complete the serene setting. The space also includes small nooks, designed for a peaceful pause – a ‘Fika’ moment – amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.
A Diverse Menu: From Dirty Matcha to Japanese Sando
Beyond traditional coffee offerings, Misa’s menu highlights matcha in various creative forms. Patrons can explore high-quality matcha beverages that go beyond the classic matcha latte, featuring new flavor combinations. The menu includes ‘dirty matcha’ (matcha with coffee), ‘hojicha latte’ (a lower-caffeine option), ‘coconut matcha latte’ with coconut milk and wakame salt, and ‘kinako latte’ with a special type of foam, as well as matcha with white chocolate. For a refreshing option, there’s also matcha with yuzu soda.
The food menu complements the beverages with Japanese-inspired treats. Guests can find matcha financiers, miso cinnamon rolls, and various baked sweets. A standout offering is the Japanese sando, fluffy sandwiches available with seven different fillings, including turkey pastrami, smoked salmon, and prosciutto.
Unexpectedly, Misa also offers freshly prepared focaccia. Vasilis, who has a particular fondness for these Italian flatbreads, bakes them daily on-site. There are four different focaccia options, featuring rich fillings such as mortadella, salami, prosciutto, and a vegetarian version, blending Italian tradition with the brew bar’s diverse culinary profile.
A New Urban Oasis in Athens
Misa represents a new addition to Athens’ vibrant culinary scene, providing a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing space for residents and visitors alike. It caters to the growing popularity of brunch culture, microbakeries, and matcha latte, offering a refined yet approachable experience.
