Corfu, March 18 – A pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run incident that occurred late Monday evening in Corfu. The incident took place outside the 1st and 5th High School, where a motorcycle struck a pedestrian on a crosswalk before the driver fled the scene, leaving the injured individual unattended.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
An EKAV ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene. Paramedics assessed the injured pedestrian and deemed it necessary to transport them to the General Hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Police Investigation Underway
The Traffic Police have taken over the investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the motorcyclist responsible for the hit-and-run.
Concerns Over Insufficient Lighting
It is noteworthy that the specific location where the accident occurred is reported to have insufficient lighting. This lack of adequate illumination significantly increases the likelihood of accidents, especially in an area of Corfu Town that experiences heavy traffic. Start Media had previously reported on the poor lighting conditions and the potential for accidents in this particular area as early as October.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and infrastructure in Corfu, particularly in areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The community awaits further developments in the police investigation and hopes for measures to improve safety at this problematic intersection.
