VorOina Returns to Athens: Northern Greek Vineyard Showcased at Conservatoire
Athens, February 2, 2026 – The Foyer of Arts at the Athens Conservatoire is set to host VorOina, the highly anticipated annual gathering of winemakers and wine enthusiasts, today. This established event, a reference point for Greek wine since 2005, brings the richness, diversity, and character of the northern Greek vineyard to the heart of the city.
From noon until evening, the public will have the exceptional opportunity to taste a comprehensive selection of wines and spirits from 31 distinct wineries. The offerings span the full spectrum of styles, including intense and fresh whites, complex rosés, young and aged reds, still and sparkling wines, and a range from dry to sweet. Additionally, visitors can sample spirits with extended maturation periods, showcasing a concentrated display of Northern Greece’s dynamic wine culture.
A Journey Through Northern Greece’s Wine Routes
The exhibition is thoughtfully organized according to the eight Wine Routes of Northern Greece, allowing attendees to embark on a tasteful journey from one terroir to another. This includes a diverse representation from:
- The Route of the Gods of Olympus, featuring Kitrvs Winery.
- The Epirus Route, with historic names such as Zitsa and Katogi Averof.
- The Lakes of Western Macedonia, highlighting wines from Amyntaio and Velvento.
- Other significant regions such as Naousa, Pella, Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, and Drama.
Special emphasis is placed on PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) zones, as well as the indigenous grape varieties that are fundamental to the identity of Northern Greek wine. Highlights include Xinomavro in its various expressions, from Naousa to Amyntaio, the aromatic whites of Macedonia and Epirus, and modern interpretations of international varieties. This creates a rich mosaic designed to appeal to both seasoned wine connoisseurs and industry professionals.
Beyond Tasting: Dialogue and Education
VorOina is conceived as more than just a tasting event; it is a vibrant platform for dialogue about wine’s origin, style, and ongoing evolution. This is underscored by a comprehensive parallel program, which includes:
- A scientific seminar addressing the challenges facing modern winemaking.
- Two masterclasses, one dedicated to the sparkling wines of Northern Greece and another exploring the multiple expressions of Syrah. These masterclasses are led by Giorgos Zervogiannis, recognized as Greece’s Best Sommelier 2024.
For those passionate about Greek wine and keen to delve deeper, VorOina in Athens presents a unique opportunity to taste, compare, engage directly with producers, and gain a profound understanding of why the northern Greek vineyard remains one of the country’s most vibrant and evolving wine regions.
