Corfu, January 20, 2026 – The Board of Directors of ELME Corfu (Secondary Education Teachers’ Union of Corfu) has issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to ongoing actions against individual teacher evaluations. The union explicitly states that it will not accept any pressure, threats, or blackmail from evaluators towards teachers participating in the strike-abstention.
ELME Corfu’s Stance Against Evaluation
The announcement urges evaluators not to attempt to force their way into classrooms to observe lessons and to respect the decision of their colleagues. “Otherwise, they will find us in front of them,” the statement warns. This declaration underscores the union’s firm resolve to protect its members and resist the implementation of individual evaluations.
Current Actions in Effect
ELME Corfu highlights that three main forms of protest are currently in full force:
- Strike-Abstention from all individual evaluation procedures: This action was proclaimed by ADEDY (Supreme Administration of Civil Servants’ Unions) on July 15, 2024, following a request from OLME (Federation of Secondary Education Teachers).
- Strike-Abstention from all individual evaluation procedures: ELME Corfu itself proclaimed this action on May 29, 2024.
- Work Stoppages: These stoppages are designed to prevent consultants/directors from observing lessons and have been proclaimed by both OLME and ELME Corfu.
Union’s Directives to Members
The union has provided clear directives to its members, emphasizing the importance of collective action and solidarity:
- Mass Participation in Strike-Abstention: Teachers are encouraged to sign up en masse for the strike-abstention of the Union and to complete the declaration form that will be sent to their emails.
- Declaration of Work Stoppages: Members are instructed to declare work stoppages, if necessary, against the evaluation procedures proclaimed by OLME and ELME. The decisions of OLME regarding work stoppages from live lesson observation (by Consultants and Directors) are fully in effect and cover everyone. Members are also advised to inform the ELME Board at every stage and whenever assistance is needed.
- Protection Against Pressure: The ELME Board reiterated its commitment to not accept pressure, threats, or blackmail from evaluators towards colleagues participating in the strike-abstention.
In the event that an evaluator attempts to force their way into a classroom, teachers are instructed to declare the work stoppage proclaimed by OLME and ELME and to leave the classroom, leaving the evaluator inside. Simultaneously, they are to inform the ELME Board so that they can be present at the school.
Call for Unity and Victory
The statement concludes with a strong call for unity: “ALL TOGETHER – ALL UNITED – ALL FOR VICTORY.” This emphasizes the collective strength and determination of the teachers in their struggle against the individual evaluation system.
The union also provides the necessary participation declarations for the strike-abstention, urging colleagues to sign both forms and submit them to the protocol department.
