Wizz Air Expands Network with New Sofia-Corfu Direct Route

Corfu, Greece – Wizz Air, a prominent low-cost airline, has officially announced the launch of a new direct flight route connecting Sofia, Bulgaria, and Corfu, Greece. This new service is scheduled to begin on June 7, 2026, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s flight program for the summer season of 2026.

Flight Schedule and Fares

The new route will operate twice a week, with flights scheduled every Tuesday and Sunday. Fares for this new connection will start from an attractive price of 29.99 euros, making Corfu an accessible destination for travelers from Sofia and vice versa. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between the two regions and boost tourism.

Advanced Aircraft for an Enhanced Travel Experience

Wizz Air will utilize its state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft for this new route. These modern aircraft are known for their efficiency and environmental benefits, offering 20% lower fuel consumption, 20% lower CO₂ emissions, and 50% less noise compared to previous generation Airbus models. This commitment to modern fleet ensures a more sustainable and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Continued Growth and Presence in Bulgaria

The introduction of the Sofia-Corfu route underscores Wizz Air’s long-term growth strategy and its continued strong presence in Bulgaria. The airline now operates 58 routes from Bulgaria to 18 countries, including 34 direct connections from Sofia to 16 countries and 16 routes from Varna to 9 countries. This extensive network highlights Wizz Air’s role in facilitating air travel for Bulgarian passengers.

In 2025 alone, Wizz Air transported over 3.1 million passengers to and from Bulgaria. The airline maintained an impressive flight completion rate of 99.6% across nearly 16,000 flights. For the winter season of 2025, Wizz Air has increased its capacity, offering over 1.6 million seats from Bulgaria, a significant 44.5% increase compared to the winter of 2024. Since commencing operations in Bulgaria in 2005, Wizz Air has carried almost 33 million passengers, demonstrating its enduring commitment to the region.

Impact on Tourism and Regional Connectivity

The new direct flight is expected to significantly benefit the tourism sectors in both Bulgaria and Corfu. It will provide a convenient and affordable travel option for tourists looking to explore the rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes of Corfu, as well as for those traveling to Sofia for business or leisure. This direct link is anticipated to foster stronger economic and cultural ties between the two destinations.

Local tourism authorities in Corfu have expressed optimism regarding the new route, anticipating an increase in tourist arrivals from Bulgaria, a market with growing potential for Greek tourism. The enhanced accessibility is also expected to support local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, contributing to the region’s economic prosperity.

Wizz Air’s continuous investment in new routes and its commitment to operating a modern, fuel-efficient fleet reflect its dedication to providing accessible and sustainable air travel options across Europe and beyond. The Sofia-Corfu route is a testament to this ongoing effort, promising new opportunities for travelers and tourism stakeholders alike.
