Wizz Air has officially unveiled a new direct flight route connecting Sofia, Bulgaria, with the picturesque Greek island of Corfu. This new service is scheduled to commence on June 7, 2026, offering travelers a convenient and affordable option for their summer getaways.

New Route Details and Schedule

The new Sofia-Corfu flights will operate twice a week, specifically every Tuesday and Sunday. This schedule provides flexibility for both short breaks and longer holidays. Fares for this new route are highly competitive, starting from just 29.99 euros, making Corfu an accessible destination for a wider range of travelers.

Advanced Aircraft for an Enhanced Travel Experience

Wizz Air will utilize its state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft for this new connection. These modern aircraft are renowned for their efficiency and environmental benefits, offering 20% lower fuel consumption, 20% reduced CO₂ emissions, and 50% less noise compared to previous generation Airbus models. This commitment to sustainability is a key aspect of Wizz Air’s operational strategy.

Wizz Air’s Continued Expansion in Bulgaria

The introduction of the Sofia-Corfu route underscores Wizz Air’s long-term growth strategy in Bulgaria. The airline now operates a total of 58 routes from Bulgaria to 18 countries. This includes 34 direct connections from Sofia to 16 countries and 16 routes from Varna to 9 countries, significantly enhancing Bulgaria’s air connectivity.

In 2025 alone, Wizz Air transported over 3.1 million passengers to and from Bulgaria, demonstrating its strong presence and popularity in the region. The airline maintained an impressive flight completion rate of 99.6%, conducting nearly 16,000 flights. For the winter season of 2025, Wizz Air has increased its seat capacity from Bulgaria by 44.5% compared to winter 2024, offering over 1.6 million seats.

Since commencing operations in Bulgaria in 2005, Wizz Air has served almost 33 million passengers, solidifying its position as a leading airline in the Bulgarian market.

Impact on Tourism and Local Economy

The new direct flight to Corfu is expected to have a positive impact on tourism for both destinations. For Bulgarian travelers, it opens up an easy and affordable gateway to one of Greece’s most beautiful islands. Conversely, it provides an opportunity for international visitors to explore Sofia and other Bulgarian attractions, further boosting the local economies.

Corfu, known for its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture, is a popular destination for European tourists. The increased accessibility is likely to attract more visitors, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses on the island.

This expansion is part of a broader trend of airlines increasing direct routes to popular holiday destinations, catering to the growing demand for convenient and cost-effective travel options.
