In a festive atmosphere brimming with emotion, the youth of Lefkimmi gathered at the “Panagia Odigitria” Cultural Center on Saturday, December 20, 2025, for their annual Christmas celebration. The event, held in Lefkimmi, Corfu, brought together the community to celebrate the holiday season.

A Program of Music, Poetry, and Tributes

The celebration commenced with a traditional greeting from Archimandrite Seraphim Linosporis, the local preacher. Following this, the Mandolinata of the Lefkimmi Artistic Musical Union (M.K.E.L.) delivered a successful performance of Christmas songs and carols, setting a joyous tone for the evening. Mr. Stefanos Gkikas, Deputy Minister of Shipping, also extended his greetings to the attendees.

A significant part of the program featured the children from the Sunday schools of the Archdiocesan District of South Corfu. These young participants recited poems, read narratives, and sang Christmas songs, supported by their catechists who played a crucial role in the organization of the celebration. The theatrical play “The Wishes,” performed by the younger children of the Sunday schools, deeply moved the audience, which had filled the venue to capacity.

Honoring a Dedicated Priest

After the Christmas and New Year carols, a message from His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios was read. In his message, Metropolitan Nektarios blessed the Christmas celebration, praised Archimandrite Seraphim Linosporis for his efforts in South Corfu, and spoke commendably of the Archdiocesan Commissioner of the South Corfu District, Protopresbyter Konstantinos Kantas. Father Kantas, who recently completed forty years of priesthood, was honored during the event with a commemorative plaque presented by Mr. Stefanos Gkikas. This tribute was initiated by the local preacher and priests of the area.

Father Konstantinos Kantas, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude to His Eminence and the priests for the honor bestowed upon him. He reflected on the joys and challenges he experienced as a priest, always keeping the holy altar at the center of his life. Following this, Mr. Savvas Koulouris, Deputy Regional Governor for Finance, and Mr. Ioannis Kavvadias, Mayor of South Corfu, also extended their greetings and best wishes to the children and all those present.

Gifts and a Message of Hope

The evening concluded with the distribution of gifts to all the children present and refreshments for everyone. This brought to a close an evening filled with meaning, songs, emotions, and the prospect of hope for a future that belongs to the children who participated in the celebration.

The event highlighted the strong community spirit in Lefkimmi and the dedication of its religious and local leaders to fostering a vibrant and supportive environment for its youth during the festive season.
