CORFU. Spiros Pantelios and Panagiota Tzanne are set to be the two candidates vying for the position of President of the New Democracy (ND) Corfu DEEP (Prefectural Committee). This development follows the sudden announcement of Irenaeus Manetas’ withdrawal from his candidacy, who until yesterday was the sole nominee for the position, leading to the reopening of the application process.

New Candidates Emerge After Manetas’ Withdrawal

The unexpected resignation of Irenaeus Manetas from his candidacy prompted the re-opening of the application period for the New Democracy Corfu DEEP presidency. Responding to this call were the current DEEP President, Spiros Pantelios, and Panagiota Tzanne, a former Deputy Mayor for European Programs, Development & Digital Governance during the mayoral term of M. Hydraios.

Panagiota Tzanne shared her thoughts on her Facebook account, stating: “I confess I was surprised to learn the news of Renos Manetas’ resignation from the position of candidate President of DEEP Corfu, as well as the decision of the KEFE (Central Electoral Committee) which exceptionally grants the right to submit new candidacies for party members for the election to the office of DEEP Corfu President. Thus, with deep respect for our Party, New Democracy, and with a sense of responsibility towards its friends and members, I decided to run for the position of President of DEEP Corfu, aiming to contribute with all my might to the unity, renewal, and effective presence of New Democracy on our island.”

Application Deadline and Upcoming Elections

The application process for candidacies will remain open until noon (12:00) on Friday, November 14. Therefore, it is not ruled out that the list of presidential candidates for the New Democracy Corfu DEEP may expand.

The internal party elections are scheduled to proceed as planned on Sunday, November 23. These elections will determine the new administrations for the local organizations, including the DEEPs (regional organizations), DIMTOs (municipal local organizations), and the delegates for the upcoming party congress.
