The Hellenic Anticancer Society (H.A.S.), continuing its “breast cancer awareness and early diagnosis program,” will be in Corfu from Monday, November 17 to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, to provide free preventive mammography screenings in all three municipalities of the island.
Why is early detection crucial?
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy affecting women in Greece, with the number of new cases estimated at 8,950 annually. The best examination for early diagnosis of breast cancer is mammography. Regular preventive mammography screening reduces mortality from the disease by up to 30%. The examination is painless, takes minimal time, and with new equipment, the radiation dose is extremely low.
Where and when to get screened?
As part of this program, the mobile mammography unit will be located at the following points:
- Monday, November 17, 2025: Agiou Athanasiou Cultural Center (next to Orfanos Pharmacy). For appointments, call: 26633/6030
- Tuesday, November 18, 2025: In the courtyard of the Ionian Islands Regional Building – Samara 13 (Old Prefecture). For appointments, call: 6945958019
- Wednesday, November 19, 2025: Lefkimmi Health Center. For appointments, call: 2662360000
