Corfu, Greece – Wizz Air is expanding its flight network from Corfu, connecting the island with nine European destinations. The airline’s CEO, Jozsef Varadi, has indicated significantly increased bookings compared to last year, despite concerns over fuel costs and availability.
Wizz Air’s Summer Expansion and Fuel Strategy
The European low-cost carrier plans to increase its summer schedule by 17%. Furthermore, Wizz Air has secured approximately 70% of its summer fuel requirements through hedging. Varadi stated that the company would renew its hedging contracts as they expire to protect against price volatility. Additionally, in 2026, the airline expects to receive 35 new Airbus aircraft, underscoring its dynamic growth strategy.
This announcement follows similar statements from Jet2, Tui, and Easyjet, which have committed to maintaining stable holiday costs despite the significant impact of the Middle East conflict on rising aviation fuel prices and supply shortages.
Corfu Connections: Nine European Destinations
For Corfu, Wizz Air will connect the island with nine European destinations: Milan, Rome, Budapest, Warsaw, Katowice, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and an additional destination, Sofia. Demand for these cities has been particularly high in recent years, with the airline aiming for high occupancy rates per flight.
The routes will operate from June to September, with flights from Budapest extending into October. Hungary has shown very encouraging tourism figures in recent years.
Modern Fleet and Operational Efficiency
Wizz Air will operate flights using A320, A321ceo, and A321neo aircraft. The A321neo models have the capacity to carry up to 239 passengers, a higher number compared to other aircraft of similar range, which is a common strategy for low-cost carriers.
Wizz Air boasts one of Europe’s most modern fleets, with an average aircraft age of 4.2 years. The airline operates over 750 routes, and its fleet currently comprises 207 Airbus aircraft.
