From Friday, November 21, to Friday, November 28, 2025, ‘The Smile of the Child,’ through its operational Crisis Management Center, was daily present alongside the residents of Corfu who were severely affected by extreme weather conditions, offering immediate and substantial support.

Coordinated Efforts for Community Safety and Relief

In close collaboration with the Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection and the Presidents of local communities, the organization’s teams coordinated various actions aimed at enhancing safety, providing aid, and bringing relief to the affected population.

Key Interventions Included:

  • Road Clearance: Efforts focused on clearing roads to help communities return to their daily routines.
  • Vehicle and Human Rescues: Ensuring safe access to previously isolated areas by rescuing trapped vehicles and individuals.
  • Yard and Home Cleaning: Cleaning yards and residences in locations inaccessible to heavy machinery.
  • Operational Support: Assisting with the cleaning of construction machinery submerged in mud, which was crucial for continuing road openings and pumping water from basements, engine rooms, and homes.

Immediate Response to a Critical Incident in Agios Stefanos Avliotes

A particularly significant moment was the immediate mobilization of the team to support a pregnant woman and two children whose home was at risk from the floods. Through combined efforts with the Fire Department and volunteers, their immediate protection and transfer to a safe location were secured, providing safety and peace of mind during a critical time.

These challenging days once again highlighted that in difficult times, cooperation, solidarity, and humanity are the forces that keep a community resilient.

‘The Smile of the Child’ remains steadfastly by every child and family in need of support, demonstrating a profound sense of responsibility and unwavering dedication to its mission.
