Athens, June 2 – Inspectors from Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) carried out extensive targeted audits of hospitality businesses along the Athens Riviera, uncovering 110 tax violations and imposing fines totalling €84,000. The inspections focused on areas with high customer traffic and a significant concentration of restaurants, cafés, bars, and entertainment venues.
Extensive Audits Reveal Widespread Non-Compliance
Special audit teams from the AADE conducted a total of 102 inspections across various hospitality and leisure businesses. Authorities found violations in 27 businesses, recording a total of 110 breaches of tax regulations. As a result of the findings, the authority imposed fines amounting to €84,000.
Inspectors also ordered the temporary 48-hour suspension of operations for three businesses located in Palaio Faliro, Alimos, and Glyfada after identifying serious violations of tax legislation. These suspensions highlight the severity of the non-compliance issues discovered during the audits.
Focus on Fiscal Device Compliance and Receipt Issuance
According to the authority, the audits primarily examined whether businesses issued retail receipts correctly, operated fiscal devices properly, and transmitted transaction data in accordance with tax requirements. This focus underscores the AADE’s commitment to ensuring transparency and proper financial reporting within the hospitality sector.
The AADE stated that it will continue intensive and targeted inspections throughout the summer season, particularly in areas experiencing high levels of tourism and commercial activity. This ongoing campaign aims to ensure fair competition among businesses and strengthen tax compliance across the market, safeguarding public revenue.
Continued Efforts for Tax Compliance
Officials said the ongoing campaign aims to ensure fair competition among businesses and strengthen tax compliance across the market. The Athens Riviera, a popular tourist destination, is a key area of focus due to its high volume of commercial activity and potential for tax evasion.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue encourages businesses to adhere strictly to tax regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to a fair economic environment. The authority’s proactive approach is expected to deter future violations and promote a culture of compliance within the Greek hospitality industry.
