The “ODYSSEAS” Development Association has commenced studies for the expansion of the quays and sidewalks of Vathy Port in Ithaca. This significant project, funded by the Ministry of Shipping, is poised to substantially enhance the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of the central port.
Comprehensive Upgrade for Pedestrians and Vessels
This crucial upgrade is designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, including those with disabilities (AMEA), by smoothing out the current significant variations in sidewalk heights and widths. The goal is to create a unified promenade that will span a large section of the waterfront, simultaneously providing ample space for outdoor seating arrangements.
This initiative will make Vathy even more appealing to both visitors and residents, offering a safe and relaxing pathway along the sea. Furthermore, improved service for vessels, especially during the peak summer season, will support the increased tourist traffic befitting an island with one of the most globally recognized names.
Collaborative Effort and Future Vision
The Municipality of Ithaca extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Shipping for its trust and support, and to the “ODYSSEAS” Development Association for undertaking this vital project.
Ithaca is evolving with a clear plan and vision. The ongoing efforts aim to create a modern, functional, and friendly island for everyone.
