Storm Adel is set to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms across Greece, with a particular focus on Attica from today, Thursday, November 27, until Saturday. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued a forecast predicting strong rainfall and thunderstorms for today.
Severe Weather Expected Across Greece
According to the EMY bulletin, the Eastern Aegean islands, Dodecanese, Cyclades, and Crete will experience intermittently increased cloudiness with local rains, which will intensify overnight in the Eastern Aegean islands. The rest of the country will see rain and scattered thunderstorms.
The phenomena in the Ionian islands, Epirus, Western and Central Continental Greece, Western and Southern Peloponnese, Central and Eastern Macedonia, and Thrace are expected to be particularly strong, accompanied by local hailstorms and very strong winds.
Wind Conditions
Winds will blow from southern directions at 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally 7 in the Southern Ionian and Aegean Sea, and possibly 8 Beaufort in the Thracian Sea during the morning hours.
The windy forecast model currently shows thunderstorms in Western Greece and Eastern Macedonia. These conditions are expected to persist with the same intensity until noon, while the rest of Greece will experience heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms.
Afternoon Forecast and Athens Impact
Towards the afternoon, intense thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Thessaly and Eastern Peloponnese. For Attica, today will be a particularly rainy day with rain and thunderstorms throughout. The windy model predicts thunderstorms in the Attica basin from 7 PM onwards.

Cyclades, Crete
- Weather: Increased clouds with a few local rains.
