Athens, December 22 – Greek airline SKY express has launched a new direct air connection between Athens and Lyon, further strengthening its presence in the French market and expanding its international network. The inaugural flight took place on Monday, December 15, marking the start of a year-round service operated twice weekly, every Monday and Friday. The route is served by Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, part of the airline’s new-generation fleet.

Increased Connectivity Between Greece and France

According to SKY express, the new connection responds to steadily growing travel demand between Greece and France, while also supporting both leisure and business travel flows between the two countries.

Commenting on the launch, SKY express Director France Jean Brajon said the Athens-Lyon route represents “an important step in strengthening Franco-Greek relations”, noting the increasing interest in direct connectivity between the two markets. He added that the airline looks forward to welcoming more passengers from Lyon to Athens and onwards across Greece via SKY express’s domestic network.

With the addition of the new route, SKY express now operates year-round direct flights from Athens to Paris and Lyon. During the summer season, the airline also offers direct services from Heraklion on Crete to several French cities, including Lille, Nantes, Marseille and Lyon, further broadening its footprint in the French market.

International Expansion and Domestic Network Leadership

The launch of the new route coincides with the completion of the airline’s latest phase of international expansion, which has seen the addition of six new destinations – Hamburg, Berlin, Lyon, Lisbon, Madrid and Tel Aviv – bringing the total number of international routes to 27.

At the same time, SKY express remains the only Greek carrier serving the country’s largest domestic network, with 33 destinations across Greece, positioning Athens as a key hub for onward connections.

SKY express operates the youngest fleet among Greek airlines, comprising 29 aircraft, as it continues to pursue targeted growth in both domestic and international markets.
