Athens, March 17 – The Panathēnea festival is set to return in May 2026, continuing its mission to reimagine one of Ancient Athens’ most iconic festivals. What began as a student-led initiative has rapidly grown into a significant international gathering, attracting founders, investors, artists, and creative thinkers who are actively shaping the future of technology and culture.
Athens: A Hub for European Innovation and Creativity
Building on the success of its inaugural edition, Panathēnea 2026 aims to solidify Athens’ standing as a pivotal meeting point for the European startup and arts ecosystem. The festival uniquely connects three core worlds: technology, startups, and the arts, fostering an environment where ideas, talent, and capital converge in innovative ways. It serves as a dynamic hub for those dedicated to driving change across the tech, business, and arts sectors.
Influential Leaders to Headline Tech Lineup
The 2026 tech lineup will feature prominent figures from some of the world’s leading venture capital firms and technology companies. Confirmed speakers include Neil Rimer from Index Ventures, George Robson from Sequoia, and Ben Blume from Atomico. They will be joined by partners from Balderton Capital, Accel, and Visionaries Club, bringing a wealth of experience and insight to the discussions.
Further enhancing the program, unicorn founders from Eleven Labs, Deel, Fuse Energy, and Runway are scheduled to speak, alongside industry leaders from NVIDIA, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. The festival will also host members of the EU-INC initiative team, who will contribute to dialogues concerning Europe’s future innovation infrastructure.
Over 70 Side Events to Enhance the Festival Experience
Throughout Panathēnea 2026, Athens will host more than 70 side events, meticulously organized by venture capital firms, technology companies, and members of the international startup community. These diverse gatherings will cater to a wide range of interests, from sector-specific sessions exploring over 40 industries-including defense, fintech, deep-tech, and crypto-to experiential events designed to foster connection in uniquely Athenian settings. Attendees can look forward to activities such as poker nights, night runs, and social gatherings at some of the city’s most iconic terraces.
The 2026 edition promises an expanded program across Athens, featuring keynote talks, curated networking experiences, startup showcases, and large-scale artistic installations. Emerging founders will be provided with invaluable opportunities to present their ideas and forge connections with investors and key ecosystem leaders.
Panathēnea Arts: A Dedicated Cultural Program
A significant development for the 2026 edition is the expansion of Panathēnea Arts, a dedicated cultural program. This initiative brings together filmmakers, musicians, and contemporary artists, underscoring the vital role of creativity in shaping the future of innovation. The program will showcase internationally acclaimed creators, including Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins, alongside other leading voices from the global arts and creative industries.
Panathēnea operates as a not-for-profit, student-led initiative based in Athens. It is organized by a dedicated team of students and recent graduates, supported by an advisory network comprising founders, investors, and industry leaders.
Lefteris Katsiadakis, CEO of Panathēnea, emphasized the festival’s vision, stating, “Athens has always been a hub of creativity. With Panathēnea, we’re creating a space where founders, artists, and innovators can meet, collaborate, and build the next generation of impactful companies while strengthening Athens’ role in the European startup ecosystem.”
The festival aims not only to highlight Athens’ historical legacy as a cradle of ideas but also to project its future as a dynamic center for contemporary innovation and artistic expression.
