The Panathenea, an international innovation festival for technology and the arts, returns for its second year, from May 27-29 at the Zappeion Mansion. With 10,000 participants from all over the world, this year’s event establishes the Greek capital as a strategic meeting point for the global ecosystem of entrepreneurship and the arts.

Panathenea 2026: A New Era for Arts and Innovation

Panathenea inaugurates a new era this year, expanding its program with the creation of autonomous pillars for Cinema and Music. With Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins as the central figure, along with Ben Frost and Lulu Wang, the event transforms the Zappeion into a global destination for arts and creative pioneering.

Following its successful first contact with the artistic public last year, Panathenea 2026 presents a structured program across four pillars:

Conversations in Practice:

Internationally acclaimed creators, such as Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), director Lulu Wang (The Farewell), pioneering composer and sound artist Ben Frost (Dark), director and visual artist Andrew Thomas Huang (collaborator of FKA Twigs, Björk), Oscar Boyson (producer for the Safdie brothers & Noah Baumbach) as well as creative director Dannah Gottlieb (collaborator of Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter) analyze their creative journey, challenges, and career highlights in a series of captivating discussions.

The program also includes a significant roundtable with leading Greek female directors, such as Evi Kalogiropoulou, Eva Stefani, Konstantina Kotzamani, and Jacqueline Lentzou, who will discuss their creative process and new directions in cinematic narrative.

The Artist Studio:

Experimental workshops where art meets technology through experiential learning. The program includes the specialized Gen AI workshop by Matt Zien (Grimes’ collaborator), as well as a music production seminar with TEO .x3, offering participants the opportunity to explore contemporary creation and the boundless possibilities of creative technology.

Career Development Hub:

A specialized professional empowerment hub, implemented with the support of The Hellenic Initiative. The program includes a targeted Job Fair for artists and audiovisual professionals, workshops on legal issues and marketing, as well as networking opportunities with important international market players.

Side Events:

The festival “spreads” throughout the city, transforming Athens into an open cultural stage. The program includes film screenings in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Film Festival and the Cinobo platform, as well as unique musical moments, from live performances in partnership with the Greek National Opera to Tamta’s groundbreaking live show. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to tour artistic workshops in the city. A highlight is the grand Street Party on the evening of Friday, May 29, in front of the Zappeion, open and free to the public, with the participation of international DJs.

The artistic program of Panathenea 2026 is realized with the valuable collaboration and support of leading organizations, including EKOME, Onassis ONX, the Greek National Opera, the Thessaloniki Film Festival, Cinobo, The Hellenic Initiative, the Museum of Cycladic Art, and EMST (National Museum of Contemporary Art).

An International Ecosystem with Greek DNA

Panathenea aims to establish Athens as an international hub where creative intelligence meets global innovation. The event is an influential platform that brings together leading investors and global market leaders with the elite of the arts, creating bridges for cooperation and new professional prospects.

Investment Capital Exceeding $400 Billion in Athens

Panathenea is one of the most significant gatherings of the global investment elite ever held in Greece. The event, bearing the endorsement of Lars Rasmussen (co-creator of Google Maps), brings representatives of leading investment funds to the Zappeion this year, such as Accel (Facebook, Spotify), Sequoia Capital (Apple, OpenAI), and Index Ventures. This year’s participants manage capital exceeding $400 billion and come to Athens to network with the domestic ecosystem, seeking the next big investment opportunity in cutting-edge sectors.

The technological aspect of the event covers the entire spectrum of modern innovation, with more than 70 parallel events focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Defense (Defense Tech), Fintech, and Robotics. Additionally, the program includes talks by founders of unicorn companies, such as the mobility platform Bolt (with Europe’s youngest billionaire, Markus Villig), ElevenLabs (a leader in AI audio), and Deel (valued at $12 billion). The event is complemented by senior executives from giants like OpenAI, NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft, offering rare access to the knowledge and strategy of companies shaping the world.

Grand Street Party for the City

The event will culminate on the evening of Friday, May 29, with a spectacular street party in front of the Zappeion, in collaboration with Endeavor Greece. The event is open and free to the public, with international DJs setting the rhythm for a celebration of innovation for all Athenians.

An Initiative with International Impact

Panathenea started as a non-profit initiative by five students with the support of Lars Rasmussen (co-creator of Google Maps). Today, it is an institution supported by the public and private sectors, with Major Sponsors such as Aegean Airlines and the National Bank for the second consecutive year, as well as PPC, Kaizen Gaming, and Mastercard. Additionally, the event is implemented with the support of EKOME.

Panathenea 2026 is held under the auspices of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, the Ministry of Tourism, the Region of Attica, and the Municipality of Athens.

Lefteris Katsiadakis, CEO of Panathenea, notes: “Athens has always been a hub of creation. With Panathenea, we create the space where the most innovative businesses and creators meet to develop solutions to the challenges of our time. We enhance the city’s role on the global innovation map, creating a hub for all those who aspire to change the world.”

About Panathenea

Redefining the ancient festival of the same name, Panathenea creates an international, non-profit innovation platform in Athens, aiming to help all founders & creators who are changing the world. Far from the logic of a typical conference, Panathenea seeks to strengthen the development of the Greek entrepreneurial ecosystem and its extroversion.

The initiative started from 5 Greek students with the support of the creator of Google Maps, drawing inspiration from Europe’s most influential innovation movements. The vision of the founders is for Panathenea to be to innovation what the Olympic Games are to sports.
